How Does Carbon Filter work?

There are many activated carbon particles in the carbon filter, and there also have many pores to pass air. The air passes through the pores after being filtered, and the air finally passes out through the exhaust fans. Before that, the activated carbon particles hold the plant smell by attracting the organic particles which contain the smell.

The activated carbons lose its attracting capacity day by day. After a particular time, the particles fail to retain the smell. As a result, you will need to change the carbon filter indeed. This is the basic mechanism of the carbon filter, and this is the reason for the changing of a carbon filter.

Decide the Period When to Change the Carbon Filter

First of all, look for the carbon particles. Generally, two types of carbon particles are used to make the carbon filter; one is granulated and palletized is the other one. Always remember, granulated particles have more surface area to catch the smell. That is why you will get the best service from these particles, and naturally, you can use the particle for a long period. On the other hand, palletized is also ready to give excellent performance but not the same as granulated particles. So, check the carbon filter which particles it contains!

Secondly, humidity is an excellent factor for the carbon filter. If the internal humidity reaches up to 80%, the carbon filter works less, and it will stop working after crossing 85%. So, you should ensure the humidity below 70% to keep the carbon filter active. The best humidity range for carbon filter is 60%-70%.

Thirdly, what types of plants you have? If you have more aromatic plants, you have to change the carbon filter frequently as you know more aromatic plants push more smell. That is why activated carbon particles become inactive quickly. The scenario is opposite in case of less aromatic plants.

Generally, you need to change the carbon filter after every 1.5-2 years interval if you use all day long every day. But the frequency of time depends on some factors such as quality of activated carbon, plants type, humidity, and usage which is described above in details.
