ananas ananassoides
Is a species of the Ananas genus originating in Bolivia, Brazil and Costa Rica. The term "pineapple" was adopted because of its resemblance to the cone of a conifer; the word pineapple is of Guaraní origin, from the word naná naná, which means "perfume of perfumes". Ananas is a Latinization that derives from the previous one.

Pineapple! I've never seen the plant up close, it looks like two baby pineapples are coming along after this top one gets eaten! How cool to have the fruit right in your garden like that. You are lucky, they don't grow where I am. I have to go to the market to find tropical fruits, and they are NOT fresh.... :(
