Why I Grow Peas
Most of what I grow is for preserving in some form to get us through the year, with the obvious exception of lettuces which are for immediate consumption - though I have dehydrated some in the past.
When it comes to peas though, my number one reason for growing them is simply for snacking on fresh from the garden. Of course, I will preserve my excess in the form of freezing in mason jars and adding to dishes through the year, but eating straight off the plant while out doing my garden chores or just taking a break, is my very favorite way to consume my peas.
What is your favorite thing to munch on straight from your garden?
Hope your day is a beautiful one! ~Heidi
Super good reason and one I follow too. I love to meander through the garden picking and munching as I go. I do it with Blue berries, black berries, cherry tomatoes, basil, mint, snap peas and the like. It changes as the seasons do and each year the garden is a bit different. Good stuff. Enjoyed.
Yep! All that stuff, so great!
My grandmother used to have a garden. When I was a kid, I munched on everything from bell peppers to fuyu apples.
Peas are a great straight from the garden item, no doubt.
But, I could clear a raspberry or blueberry bush if left to my own devices.
we love those berries too :)
Well I hate to sound so simple but I enjoy fresh carrots! Lol. Obviously those have to be rinsed first but they are just great to me! But fresh peas and green beans are awesome too! : )
agreed! Eat some of that dirt! Full of vit. B12.
I mean I can't say that I haven't even dirt before! Lol. Not by choice but it happens! :P
No carrot is as good as the one that comes straight from the soil!
Amen!! : )
I love peas in rice fried looks like very delicious
Here in El Salvador people uses it as a second plant in their coffee plantations because it is very good for get shadow to the young coffee plants and you could enjoy this beautiful plants.
Good post thanks.
We grow snow peas that can be eaten whole.
The dog used to love them when she followed us out to the garden. In the past she ate most of them but we continue to plant a grow them for an early fresh vegetable.
I like popping berries and cherry tomatoes into my mouth when out in the garden. If my snow peas get too large I'll eat the peas inside also while in the garden.
When I was a kid, my mom used to say I was worse than a rabbit in her pea patch! :-)
