How to Use Diatomaceous Earth to Get Rid of AntssteemCreated with Sketch.

Ants are really quite amazing creatures, but they can become a nuisance if they get in your food, or worse yet if they bite.

While they don't pose a particular threat to health, the fire ants in Texas are notorious for their vicious bites. They are aggressive and will send teams to attack people or creatures who come near their hills or even cross their lines of work, resulting in itchy and/or pus-filled bumps that will eventually resolve on their own.

We've even witnessed colonies of fire ants devour fence posts over time.

Thankfully, food grade diatomaceous earth is an easy, natural, and effective pesticide to help rid your home and property of pesky ants!

Because diatomaceous earth (DE) is made of fine particles of super absorbent silica, DE compromises the protective waxy coating on the exoskeleton of insects, and they basically dry up and die--but humans and mammals are unaffected!

How to Use Diatomaceous Earth to Get Rid of Ants

  • For little black ants or small hills, knock the hill down and generoulsy apply DE. That's it!
  • For bigger ant hills, you need to slay the queen.
    • Use a shovel to remove or break up the top of the hill.
    • Break up the network of tunnels using your shovel or a stick.
    • Liberally apply DE, continuing to stir it in.
    • Apply more DE in a 1 foot radius of the hill.
    • Treat every anthill on your property.
  • If you find ants in your home, you can sprinkle DE along their path. The longer you leave it down, the better. Sweep, wipe, or vacuum up after many days if possible. (Note: DE is hard on standard home vacuums. Consider using one without a filter.)

Repeat as needed.

We are happy to offer Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth on our website by donation towards building a healthier world for ALL!

Food grade DE has a number of uses around the home as well as within the human body! It is one of the easiest and cheapest options we have found for increasing wellness. Here are some of its other uses:

What about getting rid of ants at home?

Food grade DE is safe enough to use in the home too!

Thanks, I may try it. Ants are loving my home lol

They wont cross a line of chalk either :)

Interesting ::)

Very popular for intestinal parasite protocols.

Yes! Definitely want to make sure it is food grade DE and not pest grade or filter grade. Good for parasite detox, and it's an excellent source of silica that the human body needs to make connective tissue!

Visiting Sri Lanka, there are similar large (2-3 inch) fire ants which are extremely vicious.

Interesting background on the science on how diatomaceous earth works!

They are also a great way to get rid of bed bugs if, god forbid, you happen to have them. Sprinkling diatamaceous earth all over the infested areas, in combination with heat treating all fabrics, worked wonders when those bastards showed up at our house a few years back.

Yes, it's great for bed bugs too! Thanks for sharing your testimonial @collinhoward!

Great idea, especially for gardeners. For the home I use a home-made solution with vinegar and water. Seems to work fine for me.

I was reminded of what someone told me when I found an ant hovering near the food on my plate. He said that it is a good source of Vitamin A!

But yes, they are pests whether good source of vitamins or not.

Thanks for sharing, @maxabit! Ants and other bugs are excellent food sources, and they truly are super warrior fuel. Grasshoppers are one of our preferences, but ants are nice too.

I don't normally plug my own stuff like this but in support of ants, I wrote just how amazing they are!

Personally I'd let them live among me, teach them not to bite me and serve me food

They are certainly fascinating creatures! That's really interesting to learn about "a giant, global mega colony" of ants!

This stuff works to solve so many human problems!
Its cheap and pretty sustainable too!

And non-toxic and easy to use and relatively accessible...it makes a lot of sense to keep some on hand.

ahhahhaaahaha DUH
Thats why I make sure and also help others get ahold of it!

I tried this stuff recently to no avail. We have like a billion tiny black ants under our house. I'm thinking I may have to resort to napalm at this point.

That's a bummer to hear, @scottsantens. How much DE did you use? Was it dry, or had it ever been exposed to moisture?

Try ant bait, it gets the worker ants attracted to it, they bring it back to the queen and feed her. Poisons her to death. Right to the source

This is the current strategy I'm using. We'll see how it works.

Thanks for sharing this out @gardenofeden, i have really never heard of Diatomaceous Earth! Nice discovery for me!
Just on a side note, do you know that Ants are becoming more and more famous in the world's best restaurants dishes these days? People are just loving their taste apparently!
Cheers
@progressivechef

I love to eat bugs!
They are the most nutritious of foods!

Exactly they are very nutritious indeed, many world class chefs are using it in their modern cuisines these days! With time more people will adapt to it!

Great news!
It sure is nutritious and VERY easy and sustainable crop to grow!

DE is great stuff. Have used it many times. Additionally, I visited your website. Very impressive. Have you had this website for long? I bought some 35% Food Grade H2O about 10 years ago, thought it was from Garden of Eden, in Texas I believe. Might be you?
Also, (not a criticism) I noticed on your main page, bottom, below the word "Shop", the word "Supplements" is missing the "m".
Anyway, great information on the site.

wow thanks!
I will make sure that gets checked out!
