More shade and more organic soil to wick extra moisture would help. This is a weed tree where I live, where the ground is always cool and wet.
It does not grow in tropical areas natively, but might if given protection from drying out. In many tropical regions Bonsai growers can use spaghnum moss as a soil medium to keep the roots surrounded in humid air. Perhaps it also holds water longer than regular soil in the heat because of the lighter color.

The heat might be a problem. I keep all my plants on the balcony and it does gets pretty hot in the summer. I tried with some other bushes, but they did not like it....
