Garage Rock Prototype - Just Like Me!steemCreated with Sketch.

in #garagerock6 years ago

Toward the end of 1965, Paul Revere and The Raiders released a song that became a prototype for many of the Garage Rock Songs of 1966. It contained a 4 chord progression, an organ backing to the guitars, standard drum rhythms and fills, and a much copied guitar solo.

The lyrics find the singer in love but alone at night when the girl leaves. He's obviously emotionally distraught as you can tell from the shouted and choked up sound of his voice. Before the big guitar solo featuring 2 superimposed guitar solo tracks, he issues the prototypical Garage Rock scream!

This song integrates previous prototypical heavy Rock songs into something that was easy enough for many Garage Rock Bands across the world to learn and riff on, to create their own songs. It borrows heavily from Louie Louie and Liar Liar, as well as early Kinks songs like All Day and All of the Night, and You Really Got Me.

Enjoy the album version of Just Like Me! When you hear other Garage Rock songs, such as the ones I will post, and I invite you to Follow me if you like this kind of music, listen for echoes of Just Like Me in other songs.
