Back with me again @zulman, I have been updating my articles every day to tell you about the best old games. It have been a lot of days has passed and in today's article of focussing to discuss old games, it have been almost over for my top 10 best old games or the games that published for MS-DOS. The games that I am going to talk about in today's article is sit at my top 4 of my all time favorite of MS-DOS games. The reason why it is at rank number 4 is that the game is really have some story that i really love. First of all, I love Sci-Fi games and especially the one that related to interstellar and alien things. Because of this, I play the game a lot in old days. I like the game a lot. That is why it is sit at my top 4.
Galactix. This game is belong the genre of action. It is a shooter game. This game is almost similar in term of gameplay with the game that i have reviewed in my previous article. To be precise, Galactix is a top-down arcade shooter where the player need to eliminate or destroy the enemies fleet. The enemies in this game is the alien fleet called Xidus.
The story of the games is taking place in the year of 2019. As the in the old days, they predict that in the year 2019, alien are coming to earth for invasion. It sound silly isn't? Because now we live in the year of 2017 and next week, we will live in the year of 2018 and Aliens as all of the those fuss about, is nowhere to be seen until now. Alright, back to the story of the game. So, in the year 2019, our world has suffer from a huge disaster, where drought are the cause of it. This drought happens because there are no trees anymore in this world. According to TDP story in the game. The last tree that exist in Brazilian rain forest has been cut down by lumberjacks. The game also make a fun of the spokesman of the acne toothpick company that said
Gee, that is too bad.
At the same time with the huge disaster of drought happen on earth, another one come. The earth receive a transmission from the aliens. The transmission message is as follows:
Attention Terrans!! The Xidus have come to conquer your world and enslave it's people. Nothing can withstand the power of the Xidus. Prepare now, your doom is at hand.
As the threat come from the aliens to enslave the people on earth. That is what the objective of the player of the game is about, it is to defend the world. The main goal of the players of this game is to defend the earth from the destruction from the onslaught of the XIDUS fleet. The ship that will be used by the players is state-of-the-art ship that equiped with a limitless supply of ammunition, an in addition to that, the ship also have another weapons such as bombs, missiles, and a retractable claw that used for retrieving ship upgrades during the heat of battle. I will discuss this more details later on how to play the game.
Alright, before we continue to discuss about the details on how to play this game. let's take a loot a moment about the game development.

Galactix is an arcade game that released for MS-DOS platform. There are not much information about it. The game itself was release in the year of 1993. The developer of the game was an American company based in Chicago called Cygnus Software and the game was also published by the same company. The company later on renamed to Mountain King Studios.
The game Galactix is the firts game that the company released. It is the first game that released by the programmer named Scott Host. He is the developer of Galactix and also the founder of the company. There are also a lot of another game that released by this company and some of canceled games as well.
This game, Galactix is a vertical scrolling space shooter, where the player have to pass through several waves of attacks until the player will meet the final "boss". The game storyline are presented well in VGA graphics and also SB/Adlib sound. Some people might say the gameplay of this game is simpler that another space shooters game. However, there is a interesting feature of Galactix is that the claw hand that must be used to gather floating power-ups or bonus and weapons.
Galaxtic Gameplay Details
The gameplay is very simple. When the firts time you start the game, you will be greeted with the cinematic video of the game telling the story of the world that we lived in according to the game. This cinematic screen telling what has happen to our world and also the threat from Xidus fleet that has come to the earth to destroy and enslave it's people. After the cinematic trailer, the next screen that will appear is the main menu. See imaege below for the main menu and it's corresponding menu inside.
As you can see in the image above, there 5 menus in total, each of the menus is as follows:
Introduction : In this menu, you have to press the key "I" to enter to this menu. Here, you will be bring back to the cinematic scene at the beginning of the game when the game first start.
Start Game : This menus is obvious isn't it. It is to start the game. In order to activate this menu, press "S".
Acknowledgement : Press key "A" to enter to this menu. Here you can find the information about the developer of the game Galactix.
How to play : Press key "H" to enter to this menu. In this menu, where you can find the instruction on how to play the game. This instruction inlcude the informantion of how to control the spaceship in the war.
Registration : Press "R" to enter to this menu. This menu is just telling you that the software now has become a freeware.
Controlling the Spaceship in the game
The objectives of the game is to destroy all Xidus fleet. and then use the ship claw to collect bonuses and weapons. If you use keyboard to play the game, here is some control that you might need. See the table below:

Before you can play the game, you need to install the game. Here are the step to do it.
- Open DOSBox and mount to game folder (Check out the video at the bottom of the article to see how to do it)
- Navigate to Galaxtic folder games.
- Run INSTALL.exe (See the image below for Installation steps)
- After finished install, Run gx1.exe
