It has been a while since I updated my top 10 MS-DOS game in Steemit. And today's, back again with me @zulman for another article about my top 10 MS-DOS games. I have been updating these continues articles every day. For today's article, I would like to discuss about one of my favorite MS-DOS game that I played a lot when I was a kid. The game is very interesting. In term of my top 10 MS-DOS games, this one, this game that i am going to talk about sit at position number 3. I love the game a lot. The reason for the game to sit at top 3 is that because the game is very interesting and I play it often. In fact it I almost played the game every day. Another aspect is the the game also related to alien, that is why, I love everything related to aliens. :D

Alien Carnage. This game is belong to the genre of action. It is a shooter game. I have also review one of the MS-DOS game that called Carnage. Don't be confuse with it. This game, Alien Carnage is a totally different game. The one before is a racing game, but this, this game is a shooter game. The way we play the game is almost similar to the legendary Mario Brothers games. The player will control the character in a two dimensional graphics.

Storyline

Well, In term of the storyline, this game have a very interesting story line. This game has a cartoon-style gameplay. The feature or the storyline of Alien Carnage is a story of an agent named Halloween Harry. He is an agent that have the responsibilities to save the world from aliens. The aliens want to take over control the Earth. They want to turn all of people, earth population into some thing weird, a green-skinned zombies. Yes, because of this story, some of Mr. Halloween Harry's enemies are those people or human that have become zombies.

Halloween Harry did not save the world all by his own. In the game, Mr. Harry get help from a controller Diane, it is a controller machine where the agent get the information via a video link. When you play the game, you could not help yourself but notice that in term of the aliens or the enemies character design. There are a lot of similarities with some of popular movies or character out there. You are not wrong. It is true that the character design of the aliens or zombies are exactly references to those of popular Aliens Movie, Gremlin and the legend Elvis Presley.

Alien Carnage

Alien Carnage is an action shooter game. The game was originally released with another title, not Alien Carnage. But, the game originally was released with the title of "Halloween Harry". This game is a side-scrolling platform game or it is also known as side-scroller or 2D video games, which is a video game where the gameplay action is viewed from a side-view camera angle. The character in the game is move from the left to the side, up and down to meet the objectives of the game.

Alien Carnage was developed by Interactive Binary Illusions and SubZero Software. The game distributed by Apogee Software, an American video game publisher and also developer based in Garland, Texas, United States. Alien Carnage features a VGA graphics with 256 color and the soundtrack of the game is in MOD format. This game is composed in 4 episodes. The first episode of the game released as a shareware and another or the rest of the episode was released commercially. However, in the year of 2007, the game Alien Carnage was released as a freeware by John Passfield and 3D Realms.

Alien Carnage Gameplay

Alien Carnage gameplay is very simple. The player has to eliminate the zombies and aliens with a flamethrower and also another weapons. In the game, the player also need to rescue hostages that has been kept captive by the aliens. In order to jump, the player uses a jetpack to reach higher platforms. The jetpack and flamethrower are share the same ammo. So, the player need to be careful not to waste the energy. The player need to make a good strategy to balance the flamethrower and the jetpack energy.

To gain health. Harry the agent can eat and drink junk food. Also, rescuing hostages will make the health of Harry fully restored. To upgrade to a different kinds of ammo, the player can use ammo dispensers. In the game, the player need to collect coins that dropped by the aliens and zombies that has been killed, these coins is needed to by the ammo.

The player also can pick up another power-ups in the game with various effects. These effects include a wrapped gift containing additional ammo for Harry's current weapon, a money bag that have additional credits, and a 1-up icon, it is an extra life plus full health. To save the game progress, it could be done through the use of computer terminals that scattered across the levels of the game. in order to advance to the next level, the player needs to rescue all the hostages and then the player need to use the elevator.

Details of the game Instruction

• Selecting weapons: To select a weapons, the player can either use keys 1-6 or cycle through the available weapons using spacebar.
• Radar Move: The radar can be very handy for locating the trapped hostages on each level. Each hostages is represented by a pink dot on the radar. To toggle the radar on/off, press the R key during the game.
• Jetpack: The jetpack uses the same fuel as your flamethrower. If you allow your fuel tank to get low, the jetpack will not function properly and will occasionally cut out when flying. To use your jetpack, press Up or Thrust.
• Activating Switches: Stand over the Switch and press FIRE
• Entering Elevator: Stand in front of the elevator and press UP
• Power-ups Machine: There are seven different power-ups machines. one for each of your weapons. To buy a weapon, stand in front of the machine and press UP and FIRE. Type of power-ups machines: Flamethrower, Photon cannon, Missiles, Grenades, Micro Nukes, Omegas, Shields(invincibility)

Collectable Items

• Information Disk: This is your only way of communicating with Diane. Run over the disk ti fund out what Diane has to say.
• Coins: When certain monsters die, the release coins for you to pick up. The more coins you have, the more weapons you can buy.
• Captives: There are two types of captives. They are either stuck to floor or desperately trying to find you. These are the people you have to rescue.
• Food: Run over food to pick it up. Your energy meter will increase.
