What do you think when you hear CONTRA? yeah, I bet that you will remember your childhood especially for those who were born before 2000's. CONTRA is a kind of adventuring game that can be played either one or two players.

CONTRA was released in Oceania and Europe in 1987 as run and gun action game. It was produced and issued by Konami. Actually, on February 20, 1987, it was released as coin-operated arcade game. Then, one year later in 1988, the home version of CONTRA was released for Nintendo Entertainment System.

GAMEPLAYS

There is variety of playing views in CONTRA such as a standard side view, a pseudo-3D view, and a fixed screen format. The maximum player number for this game is two player. The first player is played by Bill the soldier who has the bond-haired wearing white tank top and blue bandanna while the second player is played by Lance with the shirtless dark-haired and the red bandanna.

Controller
CONTRA has an eight-way joystick and two action button which are shooting and jumping. The character will roll like jumping somersault rather doing a usual jumping. Then, the character can shoot in several directions such as leftward, rightward, upward, downward, and even diagonally.

Weapon
In the beginning of the game, the players will be given the default weapon which is a rifle. Yet, they can upgrade the weapon to be more sophisticated. There are some ways to do upgrading weapon. Firstly, the upgrading can be done by shooting the pillbox sensors. The second is by shooting flying item capsules. Then the last is by beating the red-clad guards in the enemy line. In addition, there are four kinds weapon namely

PLOTS

The plot of this game is in 2633. At that time, there is an evil organization in the Galuga archipelago near New Zealand who wants to conquer the world. Red Falcon Organization is the name of that organization. Where is the bad guy, there is the good guy. Here, two brief commandos become that are the good guys. They are Pfc. Bill Rizer and Pfc. Lance Bean which came from an elite group of soldiers which is Contra unit. They are sent to enemy based to destroy it and free the nature

As usual, in the end of this article, I'm gonna give my personal opinion according to this game. This game is serve epic adventure with maximum two players. Then, the kind of weapons makes this game more attractive. For me, the crucial is that CONTRA makes me remembering my awesome childhood even by only hearing the sound of it. In short, I give 7.5 of 10 for CONTRA.
