What's up, guys?

How are you guys? Did you enjoy your work today? So, as usual, today, I'm about to review a video game. Can you guess which the platform of the video game that I want to review? yes, you're right. I'm still in love to review video games from Sega Genesis/Mega Drive collection. If you read my articles in last week, you must know that I review video games which have a side-scrolling genre. However, today, I'm not gonna do the same thing again because the video game genre that I choose is fighting. Ok, don't waste our time here and let us discuss it.

ETERNAL CHAMPION

Eternal Champion is a video game that adopted fighting game as its genre. This video game was developed and released by Sega in 1993. The platform that Sega team aimed was Sega Genesis. Usually, Sega developed a fighting video game for arcade machine and then, ported to home systems (Sega Genesis). Sega team had a big hope in this video game because they had seen the success of fighting video games such as Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat. The prominent of this video game is its storyline and the characters that come from different time periods.

Gameplay

The player can perform three type of punches and three type of kicks as well. These attacks are based on the speed and power of each player. The fastest punches and kicks can be done by the player but the damage that is caused by is low. Then, the next attack type is called medium attack which combines recovery speed and damage. The last is the strongest attack that is more powerful but the recovery is the slowest. The player also can do defensive or blocking by pressing away (for high attacks) or down and away (for low attacks). If the players are close to the opponent, they can grapple. This attack cannot be avoided or blocked.

As in other fighting video games, each character has their own special attacks that are done differently. If the player beats the opponent continuously, the opponent will be dizzy and it's a good chance to perform a free attack on the opponent. In this video game, to perform all special attack or move, the player has to press multiple buttons at the same time. You can do some trials during playing the game. However, rolling motions are not provided in this video game.

This video game also has a special feature that is called "special attack meter". This bar meter will decrease if the player does a special move. You must note that different special attack takes a different amount of bar meter. Then, the player also can decrease the opponent's bar meter as well by performing taunt move. The bar meter can be recharged by stepping back into a defensive shell. However, in the main single-player mode, the opponent (computer) can perform special attacks even when its bar meter runs out.

In addition, Eternal Champion followed Mortal Kombat gameplay which allows the character to perform the finishing move. This move is called Overkills. To do this move, the player must defeat the opponent and make sure the opponent falls on a certain area of ground. If the opponent land in the right place, the life bars vanish and the player can perform Overkills.

Plot

The mankind is predicted by an omniscient being known as the Eternal Champion that will soon fade from existence because of unfair and premature deaths of key individuals throughout history who were destined for greatness. In order to recover the balance of the world, souls from different time moments before their deaths are gathered by the Eternal Champion to participate in a fighting tournament. The winner of the tournament will be able to balance the universe and change their destiny while the losers will live out their death just as history.

The storyline of this video game is unique. In most fighting video games, there are good and bad people and the player will play as the good character. But, this game is totally different because it does not have bad or good people. Each character that has been summoned by the Eternal Tournament has the potential to do good deeds to balance the universe. Even though the character kills each other in this game, that is not related to the original story. Even some characters become allies or friends during the tournament.

My Opinion

I have explained some important information about this video game and also played this video game. Now, it's time for me to write what I'm thinking about this video game. The storyline of the video game is amazing because there are no good or bad people. Talking about gameplay, Eternal Championship has some game mode and the player can choose different characters. Then, different fighters can do special attacks to defeat the opponent. Furthermore, the player also can perform finishing moves called Overkills. In short, I give 8.5 of 10 for this video game.
