Wolfenstein 3D was developed by id Software while its publishers were Apogee Software and FormGen. the original release of this video game was on May 5, 1992. It was aimed for MS-DOS. The genre of this video game is a first-person shooter video game. The developer created this video game because they were inspired by Castle Wolfenstein which was released in 1981 by Muse Software. In Wolfenstein 3D, the player plays as an Allied spy named William "B.J" Blazkowics during World War II.

This video game receives many good responses and awards. Then, the selling of this video game reached 200,000 copies by the end of 1993. Many video game experts said that Wolfenstein 3D had a big role in order to popularize first-person shooter video games. In addition, two additional episodes were created by FormGen while a pack of over 800 fan-created levels was released by Apogee. Furthermore, in 2001 multiple other video games in the Wolfenstein series were developed by other companies.

Gameplay

The graphics of this video game are not good enough because they are rudimentary 3D graphics. Wolfenstein consists of several levels where each level themes Nazi bunkers and buildings. To complete a level, the player must reach an elevator by passing through the area of bunkers or buildings. The player will fight a boss in level ten. This enemy is hard to be defeated. So, the player must pay much attention here.

This video game features health percentage which can be seen below part of the screen. If the player is shot by enemies, this health percentage will decrease. Then, if the health percentage becomes zero, the player dies and loses one life. At the beginning of the level, the player is equipped with a knife, a pistol and eight bullets, and three lives. The extra life can be obtained by finding extra-life tokens or earning enough points. These points can be gained by killing enemies or collecting treasures.

PLOT

I don't know where the game takes the location exactly because I don't have any information about it. But the time setting is in World War II. The main character of this video game is William "B.J." Blazkowicz who is an American spy of Polish descent. The game story follows his attempts to destroy the Nazi regime. He is caught when he is trying to find the plans for Operation Eisenfaust (Iron Fist). Then, he is imprisoned in Castle Wolfenstein where he must escape from.

In "Escape", Blazkowicz has been captured while trying to find the plans for Operation Eisenfaust (Iron Fist) and imprisoned in Castle Wolfenstein, from which he must escape. "Operation: Eisenfaust" is aimed to discover and mess up the Nazi's plan that creates an army of undead mutants in Castle Hollehammer, while in "Die, Führer, Die!" Blazkowics penetrates a bunker under the Reichstag. His mission ends up in a battle with Adolf Hitler in a robotic suit equipped with four chain guns.

My Opinion

I have explained some important information about this video game and also played this video game. Now, it's time for me to write what I'm thinking about this video game. The storyline of this video game is very interesting because it takes the time setting during World War II. I like it because I love the history so much. There several episodes in this video game that make it more challenging and you also can choose what your level skill is. Then, supported items are available to support the player during the game. In addition, this game was sold for 200.000 copies that means that it was a popular video game. So, I give 8 of 10 for this amazing video game. I hope you enjoy reading my article and see you in the next post.
