Poly Bridge: A game to take out your internal builder.

in #gaming6 years ago

A big hello to all the fellow players, today I bring you a game that will allow you to demonstrate your skills as construction engineer.

I was looking for some games to change the routine and see what's new, so I went to the Steam page and got this wonderful game Poly Bridge you can find it on the official website at this link. I'm not an expert in construction or math, but I'll try to explain how the game works.

The game is based on physics so it caught my attention, allowing the imagination to fly and you can enjoy pleasant moments building. Basically your main mission will be to create bridges that will allow vehicles to cross from one side to the other.

We will have some static structures that will be the bases where we will begin and where the construction will end.

We have to remember that the game is based on physics, so no structure can be left floating in the air or overloaded with weight.

We will have a certain amount of money that will be our capital to build, because every time we use a material it will have a cost, let's be careful not to exceed the budget.

The first material that will be given to us will be the asphalted road, which will always be the one that we will use so that all the vehicles can cross from one side to the other.
But this material is not highly resistant to weight, the only thing it allows is for vehicles to pass through.

Once we make the road the vehicle will be able to cross without problems.
In the green arrow that points to the top right, if we give it will start the simulation of the man on the bike crossing and we can test if the bridge resists.

In these first missions the distance is short and the vehicle is light, which makes it unnecessary to create pillars or columns to support the weight.

In each construction we will have different types of materials.
Asphalt road, wooden planks, metal beams, hydropneumatic support, each will have a function, a weight resistance level and a cost within budget.

Chinese proverb

"Never despair, even in the darkest afflictions, for from the darkest clouds falls clean and fruitful water."

life

If at any time we drop the bridge or the weight of the vehicles does not adequately resist, we will have the option of repeating the mission without losing the structure already created.

Don't forget that even though it has to do with physics, it's still a game.

"Correct your mistakes, if you have made them, and beware of them if you have not made any."

These are words from a "Chinese proverb" and I use them because we will find missions where building will not be very logical, but it will be a challenge to our imagination.

I present to you an image in which we see 3 situations:

  • A fallen structure because it couldn't bear the weight of the vehicle.
  • A ramp-style structure.
  • The structure fulfills its function of allowing the vehicle to have the impulse to cross to the other side.

Two structures in the same construction.

There will be other missions where we will have to build two structures, one on top of the other, balancing the weight between them.

And let's not forget that we have to be aware of the cost of the materials we use, so we don't have to spend the budget for the next construction.

Distribute the weight.

When we see in a mission, that the distance is very long we have to use well the distribution of the weight with the solid bases that we have.

Using the wooden columns we can give the bridge a resistant base in the shape of an arch and we can better distribute the weight.

And here we have the bridge ready, with enough power to hold the passage of two vehicles.

You set the limits to your imagination.

life

The game has few missions, but they are more like a training medium to be able to use the "free construction" mode where we can build a huge variety of structures, with varied and fun shapes.

Sorry for not explaining the game in a scientific way, with calculations and theories of physics, but I don't master that.

I just really liked how simple and entertaining the game is, how we can build structures in a fun way, challenging ourselves.

I'll leave a video playing some simple missions, so you can better understand the dynamics of the game. I don't know how to make large and majestic structures yet but I will soon show how skilled I am.
