Games in Need of a Comeback
During the history of video gaming we have lost sight of some real gems. I have compiled a list of games that I would really like to return in a current gen setting. I have not included retro games because for the most part those reboots don't turn out that well
Killswitch (Namco)
What's it about
A third-person shooter that had a unique mechanic (unique for that time - 2004) because you could duck behind cover. This game had the same gameplay that made Gears of War so successful on the Xbox 360. The game also had mysterious cutscenes hinting at the fact that our soldier might be controlled by the agency he was working for. The game felt like it was supposed to be the first of a series in which we would find more about our character and the forces controlling him.
Why bring it back?
Gears of War proved how successful the duck-n-shoot mechanics can be and this game has great potential and an unfinished story line. It may lack the depth of Metal Gear Solid but I have high hopes that Namco can revive this game with improved shooting mechanics and an improved story line.
Operation Flashpoint (Codemasters)
What's it about
A first-person shooter kind of like the ARMA series meaning this game does not play like Call of Duty or Battlefield but needs you to use strategy to complete your goals. You have to lead your squad in the battle against foreign armies with authentic weapons and vehicles. You can't rush into firefights in this game but have to move cautiously and approach each engagement very carefully.
Why bring it back?
We are in need of some difficult realistic shooters. Operation Flashpoint was not as hardcore as ARMA but also not as arcady as Call of Duty. Unfortunately Codemasters abandoned the franchise not realizing that there is a market for these kind of shooters. If Codemasters ever decides to revive the series, I hope they go back to the "Dragon Rising" formula which was much more realistic than what they did in "Red River".
Sleeping dogs (Square Enix)
What's it about
An open world game along the lines of Grand Theft Auto. You play a undercover cop in Hong Kong in his mission to infiltrate a Triad. On your mission you will break all the rules to keep your cover. The game is often compared to GTA but there are a lot of people who claim that Sleeping dogs is the better of the two games.
Why bring it back?
Actually this is a no brainer, Sleeping dogs has a large following of loyal fans. The game already got the remaster treatment but a new episode in the Sleeping dogs saga would sell like hotcakes. The game came out in 2012 and I feel that almost 5 years later we are ready for a well deserved sequel.
Muramasa (Vanillaware)
What's it about
A hack-n-slash 2D side scroller with RPG elements. You control either a boy or girl who are possessed by an evil demon who is trying to regain its strength. Use a wide variety of epic swords to cut through hordes of demons and evil beings while powering up along the way. Brilliant gameplay and an intricate story line make this a real gem of a game.
Why bring it back?
Muramasa was released for the Wii and later for the Playstation Vita. The game looks like a simple hack-n-slash game but looks are conceiving. For this game I wouldn't even mind a reboot with improved graphics but a sequel with the original game included as a bonus would be amazing. Because the game never was released on Playstation, PC or Xbox chances are that a lot of gamers missed out on playing this game. And that mistake just has to be corrected.
Capcom VS SNK (Capcom)
What's it about
The two companies behind some of the best 2D fighting games ever made go head-to-head in this over the top fighting game. Characters from Street Fighter, Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury and many more from the Capcom and SNK fighting series take each other on to decide who is the best of the best.
Why bring it back?
Fast paced, colorful over the top fighting action and the potential for a incredible large roster of characters. There are a lot of characters that have not taken part yet in the Capcom vs SNK fighting antics. This series needs to make a return because it represents the best of Capcom and SNK history.
Shemue (Sega)
What's it about
Guide Ryo in his investigation into his father's murder in this open world game. The game was considered revolutionary when released on the Sega Dreamcast in 1999. It was not the first open world game but many consider that it laid the foundation for all the open-world games that came after it.
Why bring it back?
There has been talk about reviving Shenmue for many years. For one the game needs to continue its story and with the current level of hardware available the world of Shenmue would be amazing to explore. It would also be great to see what Yu Suzuki will do with the next chapter of Shenmue.
Tobal (Square)
What's it about
A 3D fighting game from Square before they became Square Enix. The game also had a Quest mode where you would travel through different stages fighting generic baddies.
Why bring it back?
This fighting game is probably one of the most underrated fighting games of that time (1996). Soul Calibur, Tekken, Dead or Alive, Virtua Fighter were the only games that mattered at that time. Tobal had a more cartoony approach but the gameplay was excellent and addictive. Tobal 2 was never released outside of Japan and that was a missed opportunity. This game needs a comeback to set the record straight and this is the best time for Square Enix to show the world just how great Tobal is.
Honourable mentions
Rival Schools (Capcom)
Settle the score in this 3D fighter by Capcom by beating up members of rival schools. Japanese anime like fighting at its best.
Sega Rally
In my opinion one of the best arcade racers ever. Nothing realistic here, drift around corners and race through beautiful landscapes, Sega style
Einhander
Weird and fun 2D/3D shooter by Square, different modes and great bosses make this a great shooter that needs a current gen makeover.
Which games do you feel are in need of a comeback? Let me know in the comment section.

Sleeping Dogs was LEG-EN-DARY! Really awesome game :D
Yeah, that's why I am amazed that they didn't release a sequel yet.

you are like 100x more gamer than I am, but i'll take your word for it (-:
LOL, thank you
I would love a decent remake of Sonic, in 2d and or 3d! Not too complicated but with the gameplay of the Nineties! :-)
Yeah, sometimes developers try to add too much when they reboot a game. Simplicity was what made Sonic great.
You're feeling me man! I couldn't say it better

Thank you!!
No, thank you for you nice comment :)
Isn't Shenmue 3 due te release this december? Good post.
There is a kickstarter project but nothing is certain yet, they are in the early stages and the dated has been pushed back to 2018. I don't think Sega is involved which isn't a good thing maybe Sony can step in and steer things in the right direction. Not the best start for a comeback but yes, at least Shenmue appears to be making a comeback. Thank you.
