RE: Confessions of A Former Ingress Addict (AKA What I did while too depressed to play music for two years)

in #gaming6 years ago

Thank you for posting this. I started playing Ingress back in the days of the Beta testing. I joined as a Resistance player for no other reason than at the time I was reading about the Resistance movement in WWII. In our area, there was not much teamwork, until I reached a Level 8. So I could fly under the radar and not draw attention.

Looking at your field screen shots, I had to smile because it reminded me of my Guardian Badge. In 2013 I captured a portal that would have been under that field. 60 days in, I accidentally lost the key and assumed I would have to use another portal, and found one closer to home. Sometime after day 300 one of the MO players messaged me to let me know he could no longer recharge for me. It was not until that point that I realized the MO portal was still my guardian. During that time they used it multiple times for their BAF's, Somehow it survived all that time.

Once I had made level 8, then I was asked to help with Fielding. We had an anchor portal about 15 minutes from my house, and from there I could through 13 Fields all would be over 150,000. Mind Units. It was also remote, so it only got hit about once a week. But then after that I would go and re throw the 13. This went on for about a year, when an Enlightened player moved in to the area and lived about 5 minutes away from the anchor.

But I have to say, Ingress is a great way to detach, and get out in the world. I still Ingress daily, and usually get in about 4-5 miles of hiking while I play
