5 Upcoming Post-Apocalyptic Games You Need To Watch Out For

in #gaming6 years ago (edited)

If you had your fill of Fallout 76 and been like "Nope, not playing this game like ever again or anything similar" well then what you need is palate cleanser. 2019 is ripe for a lot of games including the mayhem and destruction kind. Get your fill instead of trashing your enemies, destroying environments, leaving havoc in your wake in all sorts of fun. By the time we're done, we'll be asking what even Fallout 76 is, just like what happened to Evolve (Do please note though the latter was fun to me, just wish it had more developer support)

Here is a list of 5 anticipated titles I've made just to get you freshened up:

5. Biomutant

Not much is talked about this game other than the fact it starts some furry forest animal jacked up with bioenhancement and augmented prosthetic. The nature of the game seems tame compared to its much harsher toned colleagues in the same genre. A gameplay trailer revealed that this furry little guy kicked some samurai booty against remnants of the animal-kingdom-society with gameplay style inspired by Arkham, BloodRayne and Darksiders. Also nifty is a narrator who sticks with you most of the time to explain situations and translate other NPCs. Sounds like something straight out of a Saturday morning cartoon (well from the 90's that is). It is currently developed by Swedish studio Experiment 101, whose head honcho is a creative artist from Avalanche Studios. If you want to know more, check out the footage below.

4. Wasteland 3

I had the pleasure of engulfing myself into Wasteland 2, with much of the prowess from the creators of the original Fallout games. Wasteland 3 has had some interesting developments since it was announced, a second game from inXile that was in kickstarter, already surpassing its goal as of now. Even then, studio was later acquired by Microsoft in November before announced in XO18. While there hasn't been much shown over the title, one trailer reveals that it maintains the series staples of crass and crude characters alongside intellectual debacles, crazy shooting galleries and wide bevy of dialogue choices. I know this sounds coarse, but its clear that InXile makes Bethesda its b**ch when it comes to Post-Apocalyptic exploration games. Which is why I can't wait for this one either. Also lastly, nothing to be worried about console exclusivity, it's coming to all platforms(maybe Switch too?).

3. Rage 2

"Get ready to die, get ready to kill" that's the motto this sequel has going judging from the titular song of its. Rage 2 is a sequel nobody saw coming and I didn't think would ask for, but my opinion changed soon as I found out the mantle is handed over to Avalanche Studios studios instead of id Software but with the latest id Tech 6 engine used in Doom. Rage 2 is more carefree and flamboyant than its predecessor, if you're not going with the flow then you won't enjoy it. I mean after all, it is an Avalanche Studios game. Just Cause anyone? Though it'll be interesting to see what they got cooking here not with only just the gameplay and open world sandbox setting but its premise and story narratives as well of which the first Rage felt slightly short on. Set to be released next year on June.

2. Days Gone

From the original developers of Siphon Filter(Bend Studio) comes this out of the left field project of theirs called Days Gone. The upcoming PS4 exclusive is basically a zombie game but with lot of cinematic moments and intense open world gameplay. Yep, these are basically the key selling points of a PS4 exclusive. Though from the looks of the studios history, it's been long time since they've had a mainline title for the main PlayStation systems after Siphon Filter since most they've worked on are portable games of Uncharted and Resistance ever since. But the gameplay reveal was pretty astonishing, with insane set piece showcasing the protagonist taking down dozens of zombies relentlessly chasing him while he's fleeing. This might be Sony's possibly ham-fisted attempt on cashing in from the zombie genre that Microsoft did so well with Dead Rising. Though either of them are different games entirely, the former has been receiving special treatment as of late. I mean one trailer showed a zombie bear wrapped in barb wire, now isn't that insane? I hope the ambitions matches the quality the game will have once it comes out in April, next year.

And now the last but not for the least, this is something me and other PC elitists out there have been waiting direly for.

1. Metro Exodus

As if the prior games being PC hog weren't enough, the visual spectacle showcases that the Metro series has brought has been taken to newer heights with this installment. 4A Games have touted that this will be the first open world title in the series rather than the linear storytelling from prior ones. It will also feature more robust customization options with various weapons. Plus this is shaping up for the next-gen console as well as the current one, with leaps and bounds in rendering, detail, post-processing effects and more while also primed for Nvidia's Ray Tracing and Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing technology. The story continues after Last Light where the protagonist Artyom sets to the far-East of Russia in order to start a new life away from the tragic displacements in Moscow alongside returning characters such as Anna. The first two games were my favorite and I have no doubts that this third game will leave me pleased for days to come once I get my hands on it. The game is coming out soon on February 22th, next year.

This pretty much wraps it up....but wait here's a bonus. Do check out Far Cry New Dawn, I haven't stayed in touch with the Far Cry series since 4 but it seems like New Dawn is looking to change the pace up a bit as it's set couple of years after Far Cry 5.

Another game being Generation Zero(much like the first image you've seen in this article), developed by again Avalanche Studios as their own pet project. This one is an open-world survival with you battling robots of all types either solo or 4 player co-op.

Am guessing there's many more left out there, so if you can bring one more out, do feel free to do so. Right now, am going back to the reviews, it's been a while.
