Project Stray - How progress will be displayed from now on
So this weekend I have a host of large changes I want to lock down. The first thing is to finally decide on how the locked doors and gated progress will actually function. In the above image you can see now that I am going with visual connections to indicate what is locked and what is accessible to the player. This means that the combat cubes will now take on the identity of some kind of power source that allows you to power up objects so that they can then function properly. This is not limited to combat cubes either, there will likely be a host of other ways to power up various objects.
The only problem with this idea is that it may risk becoming too puzzley. A mechanic like this easily has the power to become very complex. Which is normally not so much of a problem. But ultimately Project Stray is meant to be Doom meets Dark Souls. Not Doom meets Portal!
