Many people believe that Zombie games are ''dead'', but this game changed that rule book the moment it was launched.

This new take on Zombie/horror survival has renewed the once obsolete Zombie game genre and has given it new life. But because of how intense and complicated this game gets, there are a few things that you should know to help you on your way to playing successfully and not getting eaten.

So here are 5 tips you need to know when playing State of Decay 2.

5 – Supplies.

  • When you start a new game, before you get your outposts set up to help supply you with everything you may need. You will rely heavily on survival packs.
The survival packs are basically a rucksack with limited supplies inside. They are very easy to find and are dotted around the entire map. The issue is that you can only carry one at a time, and because you can't leave them at outposts, or you have no outposts set up, you have to carry them one at a time back to your base. It kinda sucks, takes forever to get a good supply and very monotonous if you do do this.
There is a better alternative though is to find a car, stick some fuel in it and use it to carry the packs as you can fit several in the trunk/boot, and it is way faster. It gives you about 6 extra slots in your inventory so you can stock up on supply packs. Just make sure you have some extra fuel in one of those slots, because running out of fuel miles away from your base sucks monkey balls and you have to leave the collected packs behind until you can fuel it up again.

4 – Useless, but Very Useful.

  • when you our out in the wilderness, scavenging for supplies, fuel, Med kits and such, you may come across random items like an exercise bike, antenna, power tools, coolers and so on. On the outside and when you first look at these items, you may think that they are just junk, but they are in fact very useful items.
Collecting these items can help to improve life back at your base. The exorcise bike can be connected to a generator, so you can power various items in your base. Other items can be used to help mod your camp so you can have a mini fridge, lighting, cooking...
One of the more useful items is a water cooler. If you can find one and install it in any of your rooms, it will constantly produce water for you, so that would be one less thing to worry about.
It all adds up to healthy characters that are well fed and hydrated.

3 – Radio.

  • While you may forget about your Radio, it is actually quite useful to have on you when you are out and about slaying Zombies.
For starters, if you are having some difficulty and are surrounded by Zombies, you can radio for help and another player can come and help you out. And on the other side of that coin, you can choose to help others if they call for help, which helps with your experience points.
You should always have medical kits in your inventory, but if you don't and you are in desperate need of health, you can use your radio and select 'Medical Advice' to heal you. It will cost you some influence points, but its better than death.
While State of decay is a cool game, there are parts of the map where you can get stuck and not get back out of. Fortunately there is a ''Stuck?'' button on your radio that will help you get unstuck so you can carry on hitting zombies with the door of your car. Its free and very useful.

2 – Moral.

  • This is something that can be easily overlooked, but super important, especially if you take members of your group out with you, and there survival really depends on it.
If you only have a small party of 2 or 3, then keeping moral up is fairly easy. You have to make sure they are fed, hydrated, entertained and healthy. The larger your party is, the more work you have to do to keep them happy.
The reason why you need to keep them happy is so that your base runs efficiently and produces your supplies. If you take a look at your home status, it will tell you exactly what your party is feeling and what supplies are available.
For your base to be effective, you have to try and keep all the items in your 'Home Status' bar above yellow. If any item drops into the red, the moral of your party will drop fast. If they are low on food or fuel, they will worry about where there next meal is coming from or if they have enough fuel to stay warm and power the generator.
Just make sure that you interact with them as often as you can by making them coffee, cooking a meal and keeping the local Zombies away from the base. It will keep moral up and keep them needy NPC's happy.

1 – Stock Up.

  • I have often gone out on a supply run and I have forgotten to bring a Med kit or not realised my melee weapon is about to break. Which kinda sucks. I have also sometimes taken out a follower that doesn't have the correct skill set that I needed for that specific run/quest. This has led to members of my group getting injured, and sometimes die, because I never checked out my inventory or the skills of the follower I take out with me.
It pays to make sure that before you go out scavenging, supply runs, helping other players or going on missions/quests, that you are using the biggest back pack you have available, have a full inventory of everything that you may need, including Med kit, food, water, bullets for your firearms and fuel, also make sure that your close quarter/melee weapons are fresh and not at the point they will break. I know it sounds like a lot of stuff to take out with you but its not. It is the bare essentials that you will need for anything you do. Just make sure you only have the bare essentials because you will still want to leave room in your pack for other items you will find while you are out and about.
Also make sure that if you take out a member of your group with you, that they have the skills you need for that specific mission. If you don't, you run the risk of them getting injured or killed. And when they die, they are gone forever, no re-spawn for them.

This game is awesome. It depicts, very accurately what would happen in a post apocalyptic Zombie world and what you would do in that situation. Co-op working with other players to achieve your goals, Trading, building a base, gathering supplies, dealing with random Zombies or hordes of them, helping other survivors out, and dealing with those survivors who want everything you have.
It is literally a 'Dog eat Dog' type of world the devs have created, and it is so immersive, you can almost get lost in the game because there is always something you have to do and keep you occupied.

If you are a fan of of the Zombie genre, in particular the Walking Dead comics and TV series, this is a game for you.

What advise would you give new comers to this game?
