Video game journalists tries to build a PC

in #gaming6 years ago

And as you might imagine it goes about as well as you can expect from a gaggle of idiots who call themselves a website dedicated to technology, news, and media. Here is the video:

The amount of misinformation in this is staggering, just off the top of my head:

  • Single channel ram. (Instead of dual channel)
  • They installed the PSU in backward.
  • They used massive amounts of thermal paste even though the cooler already has a pre-applied amount of thermal paste.
  • Installed the CPU after installing the motherboard, easier and safer to do it before installing the motherboard.
  • They are missing one thumbscrew from the cooling system, so it’s not properly tensioned against the CPU. And cause it to overheat.
  • Lack of static protection.

And when people started pointing out their complete lack of knowledge when it comes to building a PC, the predictably turned off their comments on the YouTube video. They also turned off likes so no one that watches the video will get any information on whether the tutorial is actually right or wrong. The comment section was comedy gold before they turned it off though:

Even Linus Tech tips chimed in on their Twitter account with this rather funny Tweet:

Even more amazing is how he tries to sell his cluelessness as actual experience/authority on building computers if people actually followed this guide they could seriously damage their hardware and even lose some of their hardware components. Yet all the verge did was disable the comments on the video instead of removing or reshooting the video…
