Let's talk about... Monster Hunter World
Monster Hunter World
Ok, first of all Monster Hunter World (MHW) is nearly my first impression of this serie, which startet in 2004, and is quiet popular espacially in Japan. I only had a look at MH 3 for Wii but quit playing after a few hours because of complicated controlls and slow movement set. But back then I knew, that there would be a lot of potential in this series if it would handle it to be more beginner friendly without loosing the connection to it's hardcore fans.

On Release date the reviews where quiet amazing so I bought the game on my way back home...
Since then I played nearly 30 hours and ruined my weekend only tracing down monsters for the next even better loot (my girlfriend was not amused...) So yes, developers did a great job with this game! I'm having an amazing time and even now I'm getting more skilled and find out some new tactics.
But I don't want to write another review how great this game is
Things that bother me
Even if it's more userfriendly than the other parts of this serie, there are some game designs I don't really get!
Handling
- Why do I always have to leave the dojo for testing different weapons instead of just put them in there
- Dead bodies disappear to fast! If I'm in a fight and can't collect the loot thats disappointing
- Autoreturn after finishing quests. Like the point above there is sometimes a need to hurry for collecting all things in that area. Why don't leave the decission to me if I want to leave or stay?
- Mission preparing time in singleplayer. I accept a quest without any other players, why is there a delay of nearly a minute to even start this quest if there is a loading screen after all?
- Finding other players in the small multiplayer area is not enough and getting in touch with other players is not really easy.
Crafting
I always heard, MH is about slaying huge monsters to get ressources for even better weapons and armor. Well, yes thats right and with it's 14 totally different starting weapons there is quiet a lot of fun experimenting with the different possibilities but...
Once you found your 1-3 favorit weapons the developing process is really slow. You can't customize your weapons and only craft a new one now and then. How cool would it be to develop the single weapons with different blades or hilts all with different attributes in power, speed, and elemental. Same for armor where you by now are only able to put bullets in for raising defens. I don't think this is up to date.
My dream is something like MH with Diablo item earning system. I don't want my blade always have 12 ATP, why don't make some stats random, so I can craft a weapon more often to quiet optimize it. Why don't expand them with additional jewels or attachable items to make them more fit in my gameplay? There could also be light and heavy armor with different movement speed, defense or even visibility. How cool would it be to place traps and make a sneak attack on one of this monsters just to vanish in the next moment. The possibilities are endless and it yould be quiet amazing if some of this could be realized in a future MH part.
Yes I know that would be harder to balance gameplay. But Diablo is the best reference for this. With all the items you collect there would be plenty of options to enhance your loadout with small attachable items to craft. And then, if you fell monsters are too easy, just involve some hardcore-mode with new monster resistence or even events like fixed weapon sets to make it more challenging.
That would be my dream: A MHW gameplay with the item grind of Diablo! To play again and again for the last bit of optimized loadout. By now I can develop my skills bit by bit but my items don't represent this development.
