1st God Game: Populous
From Wikipedia:
Populous is a video game developed by Bullfrog Productions and published by Electronic Arts, released originally for the Amiga in 1989, and is regarded by many as the first god game
Way back in the late 80's my friend had an Amiga while the rest of us had a c64 or even (shock) a c128. There was a game called Populous. The main purpose was to raise or lower land and let your people build. The more flat land you had the larger the settlements would be until they would build a castle.
This was amazing for its time because all you could do was raise for lower land. After your kingdom grew to a certain strength you would spawn a knight who would march straight for the other player.
Like a lemming he would walk right into the water and die. Many of the games would be one player raising the land to form a bridge and another player lowering the ground to send him to his watery grave.
it was amazing and had a top down view that had not been seen before. I know there are many games like it today. but I would love more than anything to see an exact port (or emulator version) that I could play on a tablet or ipad.
I just wanted to share this with all of the younger gamers on here, to show how even a simple game could be amazing and hope you enjoy a little history of our grand hobby.
