Abadox is a game from a small collection of Halloween/ horror type games featured on the NES.
Due to the nature of the company persisting with mostly a family friendly type of game collection there are not many games in this category, but Abadox The Deadly Inner War is one of the few that braved and passed the screening process for the system.

It's games like this that you throw at people when they often like to claim there are no adult games on the system which is obviously a lie.
In Abadox The Deadly Inner War the game is based in the fictional version of the year 5012 and you play as Second Lieutenant Nazal from the planets defence fleet, Abadox is a planet habited by humans but Parasitis which is a "organic planet eating horror" that manages to take over a entire planet killing almost everything. A single ship survives it carries and is piloted by our Second Lieutenant Nazal. He is the hero character here but instead of making a escape he decides that he himself will launch a attack on the core cause of Parasitis and the planet Abadox take over.

Second Lieutenant Nazal goes literally into Parasitis in a final attempt to save not only the planet but in search of Princess Maria who was swallowed up whole by the organism planet eater.

So what is Abadox how does it play well it's basically a 2D side scrolling space shooter type of game, similar to games like Gradius and R-Type.
The main difference here is it's mostly based in a bodily horror type of theme game as you spend the entire game inside a giant organism the size of a planet.
There are also some levels where instead of going towards the left of the screen you will instead go downwards, this is used to give the impression that you descending further into the giant creature.

Abadox has your typical power-ups in which if you collect a few of the same your firing power covers more screen area giving you leverage over the many horrors hurling towards you.
Also like a lot of these games you can collect speed power-ups to navigate yourself around the screen faster.
But in like most of these games I prefer not to collect too many of these speed boosts as after a while I just seem to crash into most things as the character moves around too fast for it to be practical.

There are also the shields that can be collected to protect you against incoming fire power or enemies just crashing against you, it's possible to collect 4 of these protective shields they will continue to spin around you until they break.

Abadox really does offer some great level design concepts with it's inside the body type of theme, it's a shame we don't see much of this still to this day in gaming when it comes to these type of games.

The music is fine for the game and the bosses are mostly good and not too unfair, which I can say the same for most of the levels.

But this doesn't mean the game is easy by any means.. Abadox is tough and unfortunately if you die once you lose all your powers ups which honestly makes you want to restart the game from the beginning so that you can try again with your full power, still obviously this is annoying and takes the fun away of playing.
However at least you can keep trying from the last level that you made it to, because as we all know in other games you get placed right back at the very beginning.

I mostly enjoyed Abadox there are a few section like in level 2 and level 6 where it almost seems impossible, however it was at level 6 where I really struggled and still not sure what must be done if anything to survive that section of the game.

So was Abadox The Deadly Inner War one that I kept in my collection? Unfortunately not, but it's one of those games that I'm sad not to recommend to people.
Most of the game is great, probably about 80% of it is fun, fair and looks good however the reason why I sadly won't recommend Abadox is because there are a few sections in game that definitely feel like the game is broken, especially right near the end at level 6.
Another thing that makes the game feel very broken is actually some of your shots.. while hitting the enemy they often don't register and so I can see many having frustrating deaths due to shots not registering correctly on the enemies.

Honestly what were they thinking...either fix the problem or turn down the fire power so it actually works as intended.
This is a real shame this game was so close to being good but the frustration and silly idea on level 6 especially really as made me not want to keep this game in my collection.
