Mega Man X4 Masochist Challenge Part 09 (Very Proud of This One)

Web Spider definitely doesn't have the most complex or difficult stage, quite the contrary. But that's exactly why I wanted to work extra hard to make it look good, otherwise, this would be a really dull video.

This is the last of the eight main stages before the final stretch, and this is also the stage I'm the most proud of.

I clear both Area 1 and Area 2 in about a minute each. I don't take some obtusely different route than one would normally take, but I try to do it as quickly as possible without taking a hit.

I was able to find the timing that allowed me to stop for only a minimal amount of time.

Right at the end of the first area, there's the vertical climb in which I just barely avoid that one spike's hitbox. I actually thought I got hit, but quickly glanced at X's health bar and noticed that it was still full, and kept going.

All in all, this footage is something I'm very proud of, I think I made it look good. There's not much to say in terms of strategies and whatnot, it's a pretty dull stage for a challenge like this. A lot of this came down to just finding the perfect movement timing that allowed me to dodge as many enemies and projectiles as possible.

The first area is so wide open, I have a lot of space all to myself, but the second area is a lot more cramped, so I needed to be more careful.

All in all, another fun one. And this has made me realize that X4 has too many of these fun challenges in it to really be considered a good fit for a Masochist Run. Let's see what the final stages can bring - and after that, it's X5 and X6 which will deliver the pain in spades, I'm sure.

Web Spider is a joke boss. There's nothing I can really do to change the pattern of the battle and speed things up, other than trying to get three shots in on him per round, which is something I noticed you can do. It's very precise, though, and I miss most of the third shots.

He's nothing to cry home about anyway.
