Zelda - Guardians
No spoilers. Just introducing one of the most hated creatures in Breath of the Wild, especially in the early part of the game. Guardians or mechanical creatures from history that are still functional in present day Breath of the Wild. There are multiple types of guardians but the one you will encounter the most is the guardian with the spider legs. They glow when they see you, they move around making it hard to get a good focal point on them with a bow, and when the blue eye starts to glow they are powering the beam shot. The beam that fires from a guardian's eye is very powerful, and if you haven't eaten for defense or additional heart containers then there is a good chance you are going to see a game over screen.
They stalk their prey immediately upon establishing line of sight. Highly aggressive by the way if I haven't mentioned that. They are terminator style robots mixed with sentinels from the Matrix hellbent on messing up your plans of lifting rocks to find Koroks.
One of the best methods for taking out these mindless hate-machines is to fire an ancient arrow right into their eye. I know this is basically Zelda lore and habit, but tag them right in the eye socket and they will crumble. While they are moving in non-patterned attack sequences attempting to nuke with you an eyeball beam-cannon.
Here you see a flying guardian. Again you can go for shooting him the eye, all anti-cyclops style, or you can shoot off the three helicopter style rotors and they drop to the ground for you to beat on at your leisure. Which is very gratifying.
You will find guardian graveyards like this all over Hyrule. While they are a great place to find guardians parts keep in mind that one of them may be feigning sleep. Guardian parts are needed to create more guardian arrows once you unlock that research hub.
Outside of guardian arrows another great method towards taking out guardians is guardian weapons from guardian scouts. Smaller versions. They wield weapons that can be wielded by you once you defeat them. Downside to guardian weapons is that they break easily, but they do great damage.
Also with the spider style guardians you can chop off the legs and essentially make them into a turret. Easier to beat on them when they can't run.
Well this has been my blurb on guardians. They are an interesting enemy in Zelda and I have been a big but cautious fan of them. I hope you enjoyed the pics and explanations, stayed tuned for more Breath of the Wild.
