Video game X4 Foundations Release Date Announced

Playing computer games is one of my main hobbies. I do not usually play the typical AAA games, I prefer to try less known games.

A long time ago, I have written about the X series of videogames by Egosoft, in my review of X3: Terran Conflict. As I said in that article, I think the game series reached its top of quality, content diversity and fun in X3: Albion Prelude.

The next game, X: Rebirth, provided better graphics and a more realistic economy, but at a high cost. The campaign was much shorter, with less races available, station production was much slower and got stucked more frequently. The game certainly was improved with the new updates and DLC, but some faults of the core mechanics could not be repaired.

X4: Foundations pretends to recover the base of X3: Albion Prelude and improve it with the advantage of X: Rebirth and new content to create the best X game ever.

The game was presented during the Egosoft conference XCON in late august 2017.

During december 2017, more details were published by developers through a question & answers stream on Twitch, including game footage.

Finally, in October 2 2018, Egosoft announced the release of the game on November 30th 2018 for 49,99€

X4: Foundations will feature an extremely large universe from day one. Home to several factions of the Argon, Teladi and Paranid races, each with multiple complex economies. The Paranid, for example, are a race with very deep religious beliefs, fractured into two competing empires and now raging war against each other.
Then there are of course also a lot of other potential adversaries: Those where you have a choice, like different Pirate factions, and those where you don't, like the infamous Xenon: A race of advanced artificial general intelligence, once built by mankind themselves to help colonise space.

I am excited to see the future of this videogame series that have provided to me so much hours of fun. I am certainly sure that Egosoft has learned a lot about their mistakes in X: Rebirth and will provide a much better product this time. X series games usually gets released with some bugs, but they provide a good support, with a lot of patches and additional free content even years after the release.
