[Rogue Retro gaming] Star Fox (SNES)

in #gaming6 years ago

No Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character origin compilation can be completed without talking about these two combat aces, Fox McCloud and Falco Lombardi, these anthropomorphic animals made their first flight in the SNES in a game called "Star Fox " that was released by Nintendo in 1993.

Graphics, sounds and gameplay
In the graphics department, the game looks great thanks to the implementation of the SNES FX chip that made the system render 3D polygons although there isn't much too look around since things like buildings and big ships are not detailed at all and are just solid one or two color polygons and that's not too appealing, but for the use if polygons it was one of the most advanced graphics of its time.

Music in the game is great, has a lot of memorable songs and it's a quality we come to expect from Nintendo games. Sound effects are good too and not all at annoying, it really gives you a sense of immersion, and little details like the voice saying "good luck" at the start of the game and the 'voice acting' trough it's pretty funny since it is chipmunk-like.

The game is an on-rails shooter, you control your arwing in a limited space, just having enough room to dodge the enemy fire. You can set up your controller preference at the start, so that's great since it accommodates any style. You can play the game in the first or third person perspective. You are travelling from stage to stage once you reach the end and defeat the previous stage boss, there are three routes you can take which vary in difficulty. Your enemies are Andross' ships that will try their best to destroy your shields before you can destroy them, getting your shields all the way down results in a loss of a life and you have 2 to take care off with one continue before game over. If you ever die, you are going to be stripped of all of your upgrades and left with the single blaster.

This game is all kinds of fun and I can't recommend you enough to play it. It is fun and challenging, overall a real classic, if you ever own a SNES get this game. It has been ported also to the 3DS and WiiU, along with the SNES Classic so there are recent options.
