Today we are diving in on the game that spawned a lot of great sequels and that many hope one of those is near us, Mega Man for the NES, which was released by Capcom in 1987.

Some Footage of my gameplay

Plot
Since the game provides you no introduction, we are going to look into the manual which says, That Mega Man who is against the powerful leaders and fighting forces of Monsteropolis, where brilliant scientist Dr. Wright constructed fully-operational human-like experimental robot Dr. Wright has Dr. Willy as an assistance created Mega Man and inspired by this Dr. Willy created 6 more robots and reprogramed them to do bad and Dr. Willy turned disloyal only Mega Man resisted reprogramming and have to stop Dr. Willy.

Graphics
For NES game graphics are extremely good and you don't really stare at things wondering what they could be, every stage is unique in the background and doesn't feel like you are in the same areas nor the game feels recycled. The enemies look cute and colorful, even the Robot Masters look colorful and cute.

Music
Music in the game is great, upbeat and got me humming all the way through the stages and when I turned off the game, every one of them is memorable in their own way. Every stage has different music, which is different from the select stage screen that is also great, so in all has an excellent soundtrack and it's worth being played for that alone.

Gameplay
Like every vintage Mega Man, it is a sidescrolling platformer much like a lot of games in the NES. You have a jump button and a fire button, every level has the same structure in which you cross a platforming part filled with respawning enemies, from there you get into the boss fight against the Robot Masters and when you beat them you get an upgrade on your gun, in the start screen you can change your weapon to your other upgrades which consume energy and when that energy is depleted you can't use that particular upgrade anymore, unless some enemies drop energy when killed, your normal weapon doesn't use up energy. Every Robot master has a weakness to a specific upgrade of your weapon you can use to your advantage. You get 3 lives and infinite continues, there are unmarked checkpoints in the stages that once you cross them you and you get killed you will respawn there unless you get a game over which runs you to the start of the level.

I will not prolong this further, the game is hard, the game pretty much requires you to be on point with your platforming skills, but it never feels unfair just hard, having said this, Mega Man is a great game with spot-on controls that feel natural and a kickass soundtrack. Pick this game up if you have the chance there are several ports and remakes you can grab too.

Hah! The cover art looks so awkward now! :)

I love the "high resolution graphics", "state-of-the-art" at the top

The NES megaman games were before my time, but the first 2 X-games on SNES were awesome! Too bad the transition to 3D wasn't so smooth though.

I definitely remember playing this as a kid, great game.
