[Rogue Retro Gaming] F-Zero (SNES)

in #gaming6 years ago

While looking back at speedsters in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster we come across a character named Captain Falcon, who is a futuristic race car driver. Today we are looking into his first appearance, and that was on the racing game F-Zero for the SNES which was released by Nintendo in 1990 in Japan and 1991 worldwide.

Some footage of my gameplay

Plot
The game doesn't provide you with a plot but the game manual does, which is that is now the year 2560 and now humanity is able to trade with aliens exchanging technology that made humans rich and lazy, so for their entertainment, they created a racing league based on the F-1 series, but with new technology with super magnetic technology.

Graphics, sounds and gameplay
Races are in what it seems is a vast array of alien planets, you can see sand in some places and undescriptive things outside the raceway so backgrounds are not my favourite for this game. Cars are extremely well detailed and animations are good. It is not a bad game to look to, it's just uninspiring.

The music in the game is far from forgettable, at mid-race I was humming the song of every track, the game has a lot of good songs that are not going to leave you for days, once you play 10 seconds of Mute City you are going to be humming to the upbeat tune.

This is a fun racing game, but pretty challenging. The controls seem kind of awkward at first since the "B" button is what you used to accelerate and I'm pretty much hardwired to do it with "A", "R" and "L" are used to stir left or right, while the "A" button is used for a boost that is available when a lap is completed. Every cup has various tracks in which you compete for first place, to clear a track you have to placed 3rd or above if you don't then you will lose a life and prompt to start over that track, you have 3 lives to game over. Another way of losing a life is by crashing your car enough against the border of the track or against other drivers to lose health on the "power" meter when this meter gets depleted your car will explode and you'll lose a life, you can regain power in special glowing locations on the track.

This game is absolutely fantastic, one of the best racing games I have ever played, although graphics looked dull at times. You can grab the game for about 20 USD on eBay or you could play the different versions and sequels raging from the Arcade to the GameCube.

F-Zero was the first game I bought for my Super Nintendo (Super Mario World came with it of course) and it is still my favorite for that system. The Mode 7 effects made it feel faster than anything around at the time. I loved finding the little hidden spots where you could jump parts of the track.

it is super fun and super hard, the tracks get reduced and there is tight corners or little room to handle your car, I loved it.

I was almost going to end up passing this post but Once I saw F-Zero it just caught my attention lol. I remember I use to think this game was soo cool when it first came out haha.

See you around brother.

It is cool! all kinds of fun! See you around

Parallax scrolling! This game looked amazing at the time and as you said the gameplay is top notch. RIP hat cars...

Yeah I'm bad also so... :/
