Fortnite - Brief Review

in #gaming9 years ago (edited)

I'm going to start this review by saying that I'm not very good at this kind of game... LOL! But... this game is not about collecting kills and more of a hide and seek and survive kind of game. I'll explain why later on.

I downloaded the free to play version of this game, the Fortnite Battle Royale. It is a PVP mode of that game where you will be fighting against 99 other players in a huge map. If you've play PUBG then the main concept is the same. The biggest difference is that in Fortnite you can build things which is kind of unique in some ways. At first I thought "how do you be able to build things when you're busy shooting other players??". When I started to play it then I know what it is for and it really does affect they way you play this game in one way or another. My biggest mistake was diving right into the game without doing some research first because that's how I am, I cannot contain my excitement!

The Battle Royale version of this game is in online PVP mode. In this mode you have three options, to go onto the battle solo, duo or squad. Me being me, I jumped right into the game fueled by excitement in solo mode. The duo mode is currently disabled. My first game play in this game was not as successful as I planned it to be but I was ranked at number 5 overall, without killing anyone of course. Not bad right? LOL... that part alone is hilarious when I think back about it.

How the lobby looks like. You will be assigned a random hero and you cannot choose until you buy the deluxe edition of this game

Like I said above this game is not about collecting numbers of kills, it's all about being the last man standing. So the core strategy is to go hide and seek and then survive. Sounds easy but it is actually not. I was actually struggling trying to figure out everything about this game especially the building part in my first game play, you can see that clearly in my first play video at the end of this post.

The first thing you have to do in this game is jump out of a flying school bus lifted by balloons and find a place to land. The tricky part of this game started right away at that moment. If you think you want to take your sweet moment and enjoying the scenery from above as you free falling into the map you might make a bad mistake. The first thing you should do is absolutely not that. You need to observed where most of the players land and make a decision to land at the same spot as them and go kill them quickly or you can decide to find the place where nobody else land and plan your strategy from there. If you choose the former then your typical multiplayer mindset kicking in and you might not survive long in this game, especially if this is your first time playing it. You might want to choose the latter option instead.

First you will be transported in this school bus

Fortnite 15.png
Secondly you need to jump out of the bus before the timer ends and free falling into the map

Fortnite 17.png
Then you need to use this cool glider to glide and pinpoint your landing spot

After you land you will need to go find all your gears such as weapons, items and building materials. You have to go to any building closest to you and search for the loots. Best way is to land near the building or on top of it to start your game. Getting the first weapon is very important because at the starting you will only given a pickaxe which is quite bad to be used to kill others when they have a pistol. So quickly find a weapon, any weapon will do. Normally in one house you can find more than one weapons if there's no player been there yet.

Then you will need to find other items such as bandage and shield potion. Don't horde to much weapon, keep maximum two types of weapon and use the other slots for other items. You have limited slots so you need to use them wisely. From a few sessions of playing this game I learned that the most useful weapons are sniper and rocket launcher but they're quite hard to find. These weapons can determine how long you will survive in the game or if you're the last two players left, it might determine if you will win or not.

You need to keep running and moving all the time

The next thing you need to do is move and run towards the center of the circle called "Storm Eye" because it will shrink over time. It will be getting smaller and smaller and you need to be inside it because if you don't it will hurt you and kill you. This concept is the same as PUBG.

Apart from looting, running, chasing the circle, shooting and hiding, you will also need to build. There are 4 things you can build, wall, floor, ladder and roof. At first I thought that I need to build myself a fort, since the name is Fortnite but I was wrong. I found out that you need to build those things mostly to reach places and to defend yourself especially towards the end of the round. I saw many pros using it as their final strategy when the circle is very small. I was not good at that part yet although it look kind of simple but you really need to think very very fast. There's no time to plan your building like you did in The Sims game. Building those structures will also help you escape from the enemies if your health is too low to fight or you're out of ammo. If you watch my first play video at the end of this post until the end, you will see how the player is building the "fort" for them to hide and defend themself to last longer in the game. I was so dumb and you'll see why if you watch what I did in that video... LOL...

I'm struggling with the building mode... LOL! It might look simple but it took some practices to do it quickly

If you buy the game there will be a PVE mode. For those who don't know, PVE means "Player versus environment". That means all player will be working together instead of trying to kill each other but I'm not sure whether it's an online co-op campaign or single player campaign because I haven't bought my copy yet.

Overall this game is fun to play. It is still in early access so there might be some bugs or shortcomings in this game because it is still in development. So far I haven't encounter any of those but sometimes the matchmaking can take a while. I understand that because it needs 100 players to be in one game session.

If you haven't try this game, you might want to download the Fortnite Battle Royale first before you make the decision to buy the game. There are four tiers for the paid versions at different prices and different contents but all will include Battle Royale and the Save The World PVE campaign mode.

For Solos I ALWAYS land Shifty Shafts. The place is well centered meaning that you won’t constantly have to worry about the storm try check fortnight hacks. The spot isn’t too populated which means you have a good shot at surviving early game. There is tons of loot, and mushrooms if for some reason you don’t find shields. You are able to loot shifty shafts, battle bus, the two houses near it, and then move on to greasy. Also to mention Shifty is in a forest no exuse for not leaving with a decent number of materials. I always make sure I leave with 999 wood and around 150–200 brick. This gives me a huge advantage over enemy players. Have materials early will literally win you the fight.
