DOOM patch fixes bugs and adds gyro aiming

DOOM has been a big success on the Nintendo Switch, as a faithful port of last year’s well-loved reboot of the classic franchise.

The Switch port wasn’t without its issues though. From framerate problems to audio bugs, there were a number of issues that needed to be resolved. A new patch was just released that not only fixes nearly every bug that has plagued the game since release, it also added some new features.

The most interesting addition is all new gyro aiming, which allows you to use joycons movement to fine-tune your aiming. This new feature has been compared to how gyro aiming works in Splatoon 2 and has been well-received by gamers. I tested it out briefly and can see the appeal of this feature, though I switched back to the standard controls I was used to.

Another improvement is the addition of improved matchmaking for multiplayer matches with your friends and to those to whom this important, the game icon has been updated to match the Switch DOOM cover art.

Luigi’s Balloon World will be available this Friday

To breathe new life into Super Mario Odyssey for those who have already beaten the game or tracked down every single moon, Nintendo announced a new multiplayer online mode named Luigi’s Balloon World, which will be available tomorrow as a free download.

In Luigi’s Balloon World, you’ll enter various worlds from the game and spend 30 seconds to hide a balloon somewhere in the level. In the second phase, you’ll explore the levels to try to find the balloons that were hidden by the other players.

In addition to this new game mode, several new outfits and photo filters will also be added, which should breathe some new life into the game if you thought you had discovered everything this game had to offer.

Payday 2 Switch port is taking some heat.

It was recently discovered that the developers of Payday 2 have ported an older version of the game, rather than the newest versions that are already available on other consoles and the PC.

Fan outrage has been building and many have encouraged gamers to boycott the game, at least until a proper patch is released that brings the game up to the current version that’s available on other consoles.

High quality ports of games like DOOM, Skyrim and Rocket League have raised the bar for what Switch owners expect from 3rd party ports, so hopefully these issues are resolved and Switch owners can experience the best version of the game possible.
