Gamers have been salivating for news from Nintendo following the huge 2017 that saw the massively successful release of the Nintendo Switch. Most of what has been announced is now on store shelves or available in the eShop.

Naturally, we can't wait to see what's coming next and the rumors of a new Nintendo Direct always get gamers' imaginations (and expectations) running wild.

Well, the direct dropped earlier this morning and here's all the major new game announcements:

The World Ends With You Final Remix

A new, updated version of the beloved ten-year-old Nintendo DS classic is getting an updated re-release on the Switch with full, razor-sharp HD graphics.

Release date: 2018

Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition

The first Wii U port announced in this Direct, this will make the second in the Warriors franchise to get a release on the Switch following the Fire Emblem entry that hit the console last year. It will include all the DLC from the Wii U plus new Breath of the Wild outfits for Link and Zelda. I never picked it up on the Wii U, so I'll have to add the Definitive Edition to my collection to fill the gap.

Release date: Spring 2018

Mario Tennis Aces

Mario Tennis has been a fun and popular series for nearly 20 years. Aces will feature a story mode to put a new spin (pun intended) on the game of Tennis. Featuring a story mode that breathes new life into tennis, this should be a game that Mario, sports and party game fans should keep an eye on.

Release date: Spring 2018

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA

The 25+ year old action RPG series is getting a new release on the Switch. With a look that's clearly inspired by the Xenoblade series and a name nobody will ever remember, this is looking like a great must-own game for JRPG fans.

Summer 2018

SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy

This all-female entry in the long-running SNK fighting game series will be hitting the Switch later this year. A simplified fighting system and lots of options for customizing your characters will make this a welcome entry in the Switch fighting game library.

Release date: Summer 2018

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze

The second Wii U port, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is getting another chance on the Switch with the addition of new playable character Funky Kong, who has a lot of abilities that make traversing the challenging stages easier and more fun.

Release date: May 4, 2018

Dark Souls Remastered

Much speculation was flying around the gaming community leading up to this official announcement, but the hugely popular Dark Souls is getting a remastered release on the Switch. Nothing else is known about it at this time other than the release date.

These were all of the new game announcements from the Direct. There is also a lot of news regarding DLC for new and upcoming games or games we already knew about, so to watch the entire direct and get all the news, you can watch it here.

In all, I think this Direct is going to leave fans disappointed. There was so much hype built up around it, from rumors of a GTA V port, a tease about a new Chibi Robo title and hope for seeing something like Animal Crossing, Pokemon or Metroid Prime 4. It feels like this is meant to 'get us through' the first half of the year, where they'll hopefully wow us with some huge announcements at E3.
