Superman 64 is the PERFECT VIDEO GAME! - Positives - Rerez
Look over there, it's a bird, it's a plane, it’s Superman 64! Let's find the positives. This game is phenomenally bad I mean it is bad on a whole other level. I know a lot of you out there probably think well I've seen other people play Superman 64 and they've said it's pretty bad. But see I went a step further I didn't just play the first level I beat the game! Let me tell you guys this game is the worst game we have ever featured on positives. This game is worse than Bubsy 3D. Bubsy 3D! This is worse than everything I've ever played in my entire life. Superman 64 gets everything wrong. The gameplay is bad, the level design is bad, the graphics work is just atrocious and oh my god the frame rate is terrible. This game manages to make the frame rate inconsistent at the most inopportune moments. See this game starts off where you're flying around through rings and stuff which wouldn't be super bad to play but what they've done is they've actually utilized a really poor frame rate system or engine or something that jumps the frame rate every time you're in specific instances. What that means is that maybe the frame rate is like 10 frames per second at one point but then it will jump to 30 frames per second at another point without curving the gameplay so if you're flying directly through some loops and then suddenly the frame rate jumps up you move way too fast and you're not prepared for it. It's a challenge to do anything in this game and it has to be the worst experience I've ever had on a Nintendo 64 or any video game system I've ever played. It's that bad. Now I'm shocked that we have it on the show because that means I've got to find four positives on it. No one on the planet has ever done that before but we're going to try.

Usually when you play a bad video game that features a really poor frame rate they usually stick with that poor frame rate and don't ramp it up and ramp it down. But in this game it just goes all over the place. Sometimes it’s fast, sometimes it's slow and that makes the game almost impossible to play. And I think the people that made this game knew that because they offered a very interesting kind of way around that. If you go into the options menu you can adjust the resolution of the game. I've never seen this in any other N64 game in my life but being a PC player well I've seen this done several times in a whole bunch of games. If I'm playing a game that has a really bad frame rate I lower the resolution and in this game you can do that. You can take the resolution and bring it all the way down to a tiny little box in the middle of the screen. But I found if you kept it at 60 per cent the game had a pretty decent frame rate and made the game a lot more playable. Oh oh the gameplay, the design, the time limit, the health bar, everything is still there and it's still really bad. But at least you can't blame the frame rate for all your terrible experiences. So the first positive is that this game offers an adjustment on resolution. Now playing as Superman may be very inconsistent and really not too fun when you're trying to go around rings and stuff but there is a mode where you have free flight and in free flight mode you can explore all of Metropolis which is actually pretty fun. And you know not having a billion things shooting stuff at you, you might have a very enjoyable time just flying around in this really big cityscape. Around this time a lot of games offered very direct movement in specific areas. There wasn't games like Grand Theft Auto where we had open world environments but in this game they offered something sort of like that. You can explore the outside of the LexCorp building or a bunch of random blocks all over the place and as much as this seems like a throwaway inclusion, and it is a throwaway gameplay mode, it's still something you can do and at least enjoy. Or use to test flying Superman out in the wild. So the second positive is that this game has a free flight mode.

And now a list of every super power that Superman has: super strength, flight, super speed, invulnerability, x-ray vision, heat vision, super hearing, super breath, super ventriloquism, super hypnotism? The game features a couple of key powers like super strength, flight, he's got heat vision in his eyes, x-ray vision and heck he even has the ability to blow really hard which this game does a lot of. And that's fantastic at least you have those abilities and they're actually pretty fun to use when you do use them. I especially like the heat vision because I just wanted to burn everything I saw to death. So the third positive is that you can use a lot of Superman's powers.

Usually on positives we find four positives. We've done it in every single episode but I don't think we can do that for this. Look the other positives I picked are stretches you know but at least they do exist. Everything else in this game is completely bad. There's nothing here that's remotely worth playing. I wouldn't even recommend you pick this game up as a joke. Even the story is terrible. See the story's got problems but, but maybe that's its saving grace! See Lex Luthor, right, he wants to torture Superman so he makes a VR world that tortures him. That's what the story is. Superman is going into a VR world to save his friends who are trapped there and the VR world is terrible but that's the game. The game is the VR world and that's why it's bad. It's not bad because they made a bad game it's bad because they actually invented a game that has a good purpose to be bad. Lex Luthor wouldn't make a world that's easy for Superman to beat. That's why he has a health bar. That's why it's impossible to fly. That's why nothing seems to work. That's it! The fourth positive! The fourth positive is Lex Luthor purposely made this game bad.

There you go that's it. We found four positives in Superman 64. I didn't think we were going to be able to do it but we did. And here's the trick guys. If you go out and you see this game anywhere on a store shelf you don't buy it. You see it at your friend's house and he happens to own it, steal it from him and destroy it. There's no reason to own this game, no reason to play it, this is without a doubt one of the worst experiences you'll ever get. Hell it's not one, it is the worst experience you can ever get. This is the worst video game ever made by anyone. This is trash never ever play Superman 64.

Awesome video. Interesting look at Superman; you are really stretching with some to the positives tho. lol. I subscribe to you over at YouTube and love your videos. Glad to see you here.
