League of Legends' report function - When to use it and when to not?
The report button in League of Legends is the only tool players have at their disposal to give a "heads up" to Riot about the misbehavior of certain ̶m̶e̶n̶t̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶c̶h̶a̶l̶l̶e̶n̶g̶e̶d̶ ̶c̶h̶i̶l̶d̶r̶e̶n̶ players, so that the whole community may benefit by holding a higher "standard" in the userbase.
Sadly, most players utilizes this tool as it is not meant to, taking "weight" off the report. For example by reporting for quitting (AFKing) a player that had a KDA 20/1/30 at the min 20 of the match (he obviously got DC!).
This is why I'm building this mini-guide to teach players HOW to use it correctly.

This way, hopefully, you'll have way less reports falling into the void most compulsive reporters fall in.
Before anything, what is a "report"?
Basically, it is a complain about certain user's behavior you may send to Riot's Automated system. This automated system, if enough people "report" someone for the same reason WILL apply a sanction in minutes (if 9 players report you in the same match for flaming... you're screwed).
This automated system filters out the compulsive reporter's tickets, placing them into a low priority queue. If you're in that group, the only way to be taken seriously by the system is by reporting the same things reputable players report (reputation, is an algorithm where: honor achievements, reports against the player, successful reports are taken into consideration. You should never worry about a flamer reporting you, for ANY reason).
Any report that cannot be handled automatically, is forwarded into human moderators for consideration, organized by "weight" of votes (Nunu Supp with Smite leaving the lane, for example).
In simple words, it detects and punishes players that should be playing Single Player Minecraft, instead of ruining other people's matches, by applying "democracy".
When to report:
Of course, reporting everyone just because you suck at playing Teemo top, while your opposing Darius is roaming and raping your team because you "forget" to tell your team he's missing... Will have no impact in the system.
Offensive players.
Do not misinterpret with "aggressive player" (like a Vayne, that edges the suicidal behavior). This, is an autoban:

For Riot, it does not matter "who started it". Behave like an adult and file the report at the end of the match, if he doesn't get a 3 day mute (minimum) then, he will get one eventually when other players at other matches report him for the same reasons. If it is too annoying, press TAB and mute him: Problem solved
Helping the enemy team, giving away kills.
Not "making a bad play" (you know, when Bard ults to "save" you, while also saving the enemy you're about to kill), "sucking at LoL" (missing skills), "having a lag spike" (we all had this one time or another, and know how embarrassing feels).
Helping the enemy team is, for example: Telling the enemy team where the wards are at, giving away your allies invisible position (I've seen this way too often playing Teemo, they placed a ward on top of me)... And several other ways.
Giving away kills is a classic trolls that can only "main" a single lane do when they find out they should be playing Heroes of the Storm: "who wants a free kill? Come get it at Baron". Those, get a report from me, after I kill them several times.

Not helping the team.
This is a VERY delicate reason, for example: If there's a 4 v 5 TF at bot while the missing champ is pushing top (taking out a tower), he IS helping the team indirectly! (What do you expect? For him to TP bot with no cooldown? TF defensively and get the gold from the tower!).
Apply this to several other situations, like a JG taking a drake while there's a TF at top.
Not helping the team the way YOU want, is no reason to report.
A good example, someone dancing while the TF started... F*cker
AFKing, leaving the game.
A classic, ragequitters should always be reported. If the enemy is too much for them , he should be playing against bots!

When you should NOT report.
Someone got outplayed at a lane.
If you are expecting to win your lane at every single match, and hope for the same for your teammates; then I am sorry to tell you: You ARE a NOOB. You win, you lose. You're not a Challenger, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this.
Everyone is outplayed at a point.
It is the Jungler's responsibility to balance that out, if not, swap lanes with someone!!!
A player is not following a game Meta as intended.
I know that my Teemo supp may not be of some people's liking, but I've plenty of practice with it, have an 80% win rate with that and you'll probably want to copy it afterwards.
Do not consider your limitations a standard for every player.
Precisely, the OP champions are found by playing under a non-meta method. That is why Riot annoy us nerfing up a champ per week.
Now, do not dare to "test" a bizarre build/lane/champ in a ranked match...
Expressive language, not insulting.
"Shit! I wasn't expecting that Teemo there."
"Fuck! they dodged my ult."
"Goddammit! you escaped in 20 hp!"
Freedom of speech! If you do not like it: That is what language filter is for.
Tactical discordance.
"Lets do Drake NOW."
"No, we should do Baron."
"We should take a tower, instead."
...
Normally, not many report for this reason, it tends to be deciding by just walking there and the whole team follows or not.
Usage of another language.
"yo quiero taco bell"
"???"
You can totally disable the chat if you do not like it, the ping function is more than enough to communicate with your team efficiently (it is even faster than typing). It is not a bannable offense to not speak your language pal.
Don't be a noob, report when you have to.

Nice guide, wish more people actually knew how to use and not just because someone feeds in lane because the opponent simply played better. I hate the community!
Well, at least when you are losing lane you can catch a lot of those people and report them for flaming you :P they don't offend me, but they sure will be offended when the ban-hammer hits them.
