Rainbow Six Siege - First impressions on Vigil

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

Hello there, Steemit community!

Just a small note, sorry that I haven't been posting for a couple of days. Studies sometimes need a little more focus from me, as I'm striving for the best grades!! But, I digress, onto the post.

On Sunday 19th November 2017, Ubisoft revealed the 3 new operators in the R6 Pro League Finals stream, before the game commenced. Thousands were shown the breakdown of the 2 South Korean and the one Polish attacker. The next day marked the new season for the Technical Test Server (TTS) as the operators and the map was available to try out. As soon as it became available, I made sure to come back from school, dump my bag and jump on the new season to get my first thoughts on the season.

This post will focus on my initial thoughts on the South Korean defender, Vigil, a masked operator who is able to conceal himself from enemy drones.

"Chul Kyung Hwa does not remember much of his childhood, only that his family was escaping across Asia. He remembers his older brother drowning during a river crossing; his sick mother left behind during a jungle crossing; and his father telling him not to cry, not to make a noise and alert the armed patrols. Gaining asylum in South Korea was not the happy life they had envisioned. The haunting guilt proved too much for his father, who committed suicide. Chul Kyung was adopted into the Hwa family, who believed it best if he forget his past, including his name. Chul Kyung wanted to give back to South Korea, the country that took him in, and he entered the ROK Navy, proving the exemplary sailor. He earned himself a berth in the ROKN UDT/SEALs, becoming such as skilled Operator that the 707th Special Mission Battalion handpicked him"

Vigil's ability - ERC-7

Vigil's ERC-7, a video disruptor, conceals him from any enemy drones and also Dokkaebi's logic bomb cannot see him using the defending cameras when it is activated. The ability is similar to caviera's Silent step, as it is a timed and regenerative ability.

Vigil's Weapons

Primary - K1A

This SMG is a high fire rate and low damage gun that is able to function well at low/medium ranges. I enjoy its consistent recoil, meaning that it is reliable and easy to use (But I still prefer the MP5 and MP5SD more!)

Primary - BOSG.11 (Same as Dokkaebi)

This shotgun is available in both Korean operators and works mechanically different to the other shotguns in the game. This is because it is firstly, double barrel, meaning that it only holds 2 shells. But the more significant difference is that it fires a slug rather than a spray of pellets. This means that it's damage and range is much higher (the damage stat is now the highest on record for any gun, primary or secondary).

Here is the recoil pattern (well, all there is to show is the 2 slugs fired)

Secondary - C75 Auto (Same as Dokkaebi)

This machine pistol is one of the 2 options for Vigil's secondary weapons. It's damage and recoil are both moderate and is a good option to when your primary weapon is out of ammo or its mag is emtpy.

The recoil could be better, but it isn't as bad as its counterpart (I'll get on that next).

Secondary - SMG-12 (Same as Dokkaebi)

This is the second option for secondary and is very similar to the SMG-11 (well, duh, the name is literally the same except for 12 instead of 11). Personally, I'm quite on the fence on which weapon out of the 2 to pick!

But I must admit, the recoil is much more uncontrollable and inconsistent, which pushes me towards the C75 more.

Additional Gadgets

Barbed wire (x2) -  Good for slowing down enemies and revealing their position by making a loud rattle when stepped in

Impact Grenade (x2) - Good to create flanking holes or connections between rooms (or even to throw at people!)

Counters

  • As an electronic gadget, Vigil is susceptible to the same disadvantages of the electronic devices.
  • IQ is able to detect him with her Electronics Detector while the ERC-7 is active.
  • Thatcher's EMP Grenades can temporarily disable his ERC-7.
  • Twitch can also disable the ERC-7 with her Shock Drone if it hits him, shutting it down and revealing his location.
  • Jackal is still able to detect his footprints, as the ERC-7 only protects him from camera feeds and nothing else.

And that's all on the new defending South Korean operator, Vigil. Do I like the operator?  He's average in my eyes as his gadget doesn't really bring much to the table compared to other DLC operators. I most likely won't see too much play with him.

What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments below,  it will be really interesting to see your opinions on Vigil, whether you agree with me.
