5 Indie Games You Should Definitely Check Out #7
Finally, I can talk about games without worrying about whether or not they are free. I loved talking about free games, but I must admit it got pretty boring talking about the same theme for three weeks in a row. Today, as promised, we will talk about games without any theme tying them together, although you will see that most of them are platform games. This comes mainly from the fact that I love platform games way more than any other style of games (FPS,
TPS, ...). This post comes a little bit later than usual because I went to a family dinner tonight and I couldn't finish it in time.
I hope you will like it, I still have as much fun making those kind of posts as I did in my first week on Steemit. Enough talking,
let's get right into the games !

Genres : Platform, Rhythm
Price on Steam (currently) : 4.99€
I'm a big lover of rhythm games that don't involve any music instrument at all, games likes Bit.Trip Runner, Audiosurf or Crypt of the NecroDancer (I haven't tried it yet though) that really try to innovate with the rhythm genre. This game is definitely one to be added to that list. The graphics are very, very minimalist and not always pleasing, but once you get past that, you end up with a really good rhythm platformer. Each level starts in a very quiet black and white world until you find a color ball that changes the world into a colorful one in which elements move with the beat. The game isn't that hard but beating it will unlock a no-death mode that will make you scream if you want to beat the game without dying once.
DLC Quest
Available on | |
Genres : Platform
Price on Steam (currently) : 2.99€
DLC Quest is a big middle finger given to all the games that abuse the downloadable content market by releasing way too many useless DLCs (I'm looking at you Payday 2 !). You start the game only being able to move to the right and collecting coins on your way. If you want to go left and jump, you will have to pay with those coins you just collected ! What ? You want a pause menu now ? Well, I guess you will have to pay for that too ! Nearly everything in this game has to be paid for if you want the game to be playable. It makes for a pretty interesting game though as you will always find yourself going back with the right DLC to go through an obstacle.
Jamestown
Available on | |
Genres : Shoot'em Up
Price on Steam (currently) : 9.99€
It's been a while since I haven't played that game but it's one of the best shoot'em up I have ever played. To beat each level, you will have to use three different abilities. The first one being the classic shooting, the second one being a more powerful reloadable shooting and the last one being the vaunt which gives you a temporary plasma shield, a score multiplier and a better firepower. Multiple ships are available, ranging from the classic beam shooter to harder ships like the one that charges a big ball of plasma that gets launched onto the enemies. A total of 5 different difficulty levels are also available, "normal" being the easiest and "judgement" being the hardest.
Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna)
Available on | | | | | | | |
Genres : Platform, Adventure, Story Rich
Price on Steam (currently) : 14.99€
Never Alone is really short, between 2 and 3 hours long, which may be a problem for some of you but its true genius is in the story it presents to you and how it tells it. This game is often compared to Limbo by its players, not atmosphere-wise of course but difficulty-wise as it really doesn't focus on that. The main focus is telling a story in the Iñupiaq language, not any story though, one that includes legends Iñupiaqs tell each other since years and years. You will play as Nuna, a little girl, and Fox, who will need to help each other to pass obstacles on their way. If you are not into passive story games, don't bother looking it up, although I must say it is a game I absolutely love.
Volgarr the Viking
Available on | | | | |
Genres : Platform, Action, Retro
Price on Steam (currently) : 9.99€
Volgarr The Viking is frustratingly extremely hard, which makes for my favorite kind of games (yes, I like to torture myself). It is an old-styled side action game in which you control a warrior fighting creatures through different worlds. You will find chests on the map that will upgrade your stuff, this stuff will of course make you stronger but it will also act as a way to avoid immediately dying from one hit. Indeed, every time you will get hit, your stuff will go back to its previous state. All the maps will require you to know where the enemies are and how to beat the bosses before you can really win as the margin for error is really thin.
I have played Volgarr on Xbox One. That game is awesome. Very difficult! Have you played Axiom Verge? It's a really awesome metriod clone.
No, I haven't played it yet. I've heard only good things about it though, might try it soon. But if I bought it right now, I wouldn't have the time to play it before 1 month. Right now, the only game I play is The End Is Nigh, waited so long for it to come out and it's amazing !
