Gaming - In queue for New World

in #gaming5 years ago

I made the mistake of logging off for dinner.

It's New World's release day! Time for MMO players to explore a new game. That is... if they can get past the massive queues.

My brother mentioned a server for me to join during release time, but by the time my character was created (very quickly I might add), my game crashed and relogging gave me a big queue. So I picked a low population server and got in right away! Played most of the day and then logged off for dinner.

Big mistake.

So, I am now in queue for the open world of Icaria, the server I picked this morning. Hubby is also in queue for this server, as a new player and apparently, as a new player, he gets a longer queue for some reason. I'm not sure if I'll be playing tonight, but hubby gave up completely and is now playing Warframe.

Oh well, I'll write instead and see what the queue does in the meantime.

I did play a lot today, from release time this morning until dinner. I had some afk moments inbetween, but I had the good sense to not log out.

During beta, I picked a starting town. Being a creature of habit, I decided I must play at that town during release aswell. You can't pick your starting area though, so here's how to fix that and play at your favorite town: Go through the prologue and once you get out, you're pointed towards a beach camp for your first quest. Run to the camp, hand in your quest, but don't take the next quest! Just say goodbye and run towards the starting beach area of your favorite town. Take the quest at that beach camp and you're all set!

I did some quests, killed some mobs and did a LOT of gathering.

Wood... stone...

More wood...

More stone...

Some wood on the other side of town...

Oh by the way, see that stone wall on the far side of the road? Behind that is the spawning point of a cluster of hemp plants, which is required for your clothing crafting needs. It's just outside of town (Windward). It has been a good cluster of plants for me and I've been watching them like a hawk today. I have a good supply of hemp by now!

Oh yes, I did a lot of gathering. And then I wanted to be able to carry more stuff and I realised I needed faction reputation to buy a rune to craft a bag... and then I had to do some questing.

Oh, and ofcourse I also sold some stuff, figuring prices can be pretty crazy in the beginning. I've been learning how to best use the market place. Learned not to post auctions for 14 days, because that's expensive! Especially this soon after release, there's really no need for auctions that long. That's pretty much throwing money away. Which I did quite a bit before I learned my lesson.

I'm just now thinking I should have made screenshots inside the town aswell... I forgot. Maybe if I ever get back in.

Oh, I've done some crafting too, ofcourse. I do like the crafting in this game. I also like the weapon system where you have to level them up in order to learn new skills. If you've got enough time, you can basically just level up all of the weapons, although it would be less time-consuming to just pick your favorite two or so. Gotta find the right balance too, because your choice of where to place attribute points has a big effect on your weapons.

Personally, I think I've played with most of the weapons this morning. Couldn't seem to find the ones I wanted, until I remembered the ice gauntlet. So I have that now and I do kinda enjoy the hatchet aswell... Just have to check my attribute points to see if that's a valid option... if I ever get back in.

I've been typing for a while now... still nowhere close to getting in. I might just have to follow hubby's example and give up. It's a shame, I was really looking forward to playing together tonight.

How about you?

  • Did you, or will you buy New World?
  • Have you played yet?
  • How are your server's queues?
  • Which weapons do you enjoy most?

I see a lot of mixed feelings about this game. Even steam is reporting mixed on the reviews section. Would love to play a cracked or demo version so i can decide if I really want to get it or not.

Well, the queues are horrible, but if you're able to get in early (like me), it's pretty fun. I haven't done much combat or dungeons or whatever though. I enjoy solo play and gathering and crafting. It's kept me busy for three days straight. Can't talk about long-term enjoyment though, obviously!
Could try a few hours on Steam. I'm not sure how many hours you can play and still get your money back if you don't enjoy it, but you can look into that if you want to give it a quick try. Shame you haven't had a chance to try one of the betas!

Sadly missed the betas completely, I think you can only play for an hour which sucks because to get into a game and really decide if you like it or not you have to play for a few hours. It does look like one of those grinding games and I can't play any of those, way to busy with studies and work.

For me, it doesn't feel like a griding game, although I do spend a lot of my time gathering. I guess it's because I keep getting distracted with other tasks inbetween. What I like about the game is that you can drown yourself in gathering and crafting, but you can also just go for questing or PvPing. You don't really get pushed into one direction, so you just decide for yourself what you enjoy most.

I usually do a lot of building and such. But I hardly have any time... girlfriends take more than just your money. Is there no killing? Where those pvp guys come kill the farmers/builders?

There is killing, but you decide whether to turn on PvP or not and you can switch this setting in the city. So if you're looking for a peaceful experience, you turn PvP off and just go gather where the NPC mobs aren't too high level. If you're looking for action, you turn PvP on or join a war or something like that. I'm not sure how those work though, as I haven't joined any yet.

Can you make multiple characters, I feel like this game would have a death penalty for dying and probably lose skills or something important?

You can make two characters, one per world or world group I think it was... What I've noticed when dying is equipment damage.

I have not had the opportunity to play it yet, I may decide to play it because I like video games, your passion for the game transmits emotion. Thanks for sharing.

An active day, that is good when what we do is pleasant, it keeps the mind occupied with useful things. Greetings

You have to have strategies not only to play, but also to choose the time and place to play, that is what good players do, and I see that you apply these strategies, I hope you continue to share how the game is going, nice day to you ,

Indeed games are good for mental health. This game looks very cool I'll give it a shot.

This seems like a very cool game, @playfulfoodie.
