Europa Universalis IV: Anyone Interested in AARs?

in #gaming8 years ago (edited)

Hello Steem folk! And hello Steemit gaming community!

I've been contemplating whether it would be of anyone's interest on Steemit to post Europa Universalis IV after action reports (AARs). This is a popular format among the Reddit EU4 community that allows players of EU4 to show off their playthroughs and strategies. I couldn't find any on Steemit, so I've taken it upon myself to create maybe the first EU4 AAR for the people of Steemit gaming.

What is Europa Universalis IV?

Interesting question. For those of you unfamiliar with the game or with the developer, Paradox Interactive, EU4 is a grand strategy game that takes place over the course of about 300 years from 1444-1821. It is heavily entrenched in history as far as the starts and events go and the game is fairly realistic, HOWEVER, that's where YOU come in! You decide what date you want your campaign to start in and you decide WHO you want to be. Will you start as the insanely powerful Ottoman empire and conquer Constantinople? Or will you start as the Confederate States of America during the American Civil war and try to survive in a world where everyone hates you? Anything is possible with enough patience, skill, and a little help from RNGesus.

What's the Point?

I'm glad you asked! The point of EU4 is, well, YOU get to make your own point! You decide what you want to do and how you want to run your empire (or your little island)! Will you attempt to colonize the New World? Conquer the known world? Or sit on your little island for 300 years and turn it into a highly developed city that dominates the trade in your area?

It's all up to you!

What's an AAR?

Well, as I said, an AAR (after action report) is a word/image album recording the highlights of a player's campaign, often uploaded to imgur, which is what I initially use for mine, and then uploaded to Reddit's r/eu4 subreddit for the world to see.

They're fun, but also time-consuming. As you can imagine, it takes quite a while to pass through 300 years of ingame playtime, let alone taking screenshots and noting your actions. But it's so worth it. You learn so much from each campaign that applies to your next playthrough, and also, I would argue, that is applicable in everyday life (i.e.: patience and not giving up in the face of failure).

Is Anyone Interested?

Let me know if you're interested in the comments. I'll probably post them either way!

Cheers,

I'm currently working on the first one of many. It's a bit of a difference in making a post here and making an imgur album, so I'm getting used to how the steemit editor works. Thanks for reading!

You are welcome. :)
Which country?

I've recently completed a campaign as the Knights Hospitaller, which as I understand it, can be at once one of the most difficult nations to play as and one of the most interesting nations to play as. I'll show some tips and tricks in my AAR once I'm done.
