Are Videogames Art?

This question at this day and age still remains a very controversial and heated . Defining art is not something easy and mostly everyone gets it wrong. The main thing is what I consider art can be a totally different concept for someone else. Wikipedia defines art as

Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts (artworks), expressing the author's imaginative or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power.

When people say are videogames art I think what they actually compare them to is, art as that of great monuments, the notes of Mozart, the paintings of Leonardo da vinci and so on.

I will say games are an expressive medium. They are a form of communication they speak to you and it is not the skills the gaming equipments or the duration you spend playing games that makes you a gamer but the soul. The sleepless nights you spend playing a game enjoying the world the complexity and beauty of the game. Games are not just for fun. Hours of hard work sweat and love is put into making of games by many people working together. They choose games as their medium of expression, their way of coping with life, their way of defining the world around them.
