Ashes of Creation - Please support this MMORPG

Ashes of Creation is an upcoming MMORPG that is currently in alpha development from a brand new studio, Intrepid Studios. It is a sandbox MMORPG with a player driven storyline.

Even though Ashes of Creation is in its alpha stage, the hype behind this game is tremendous. The base game is being personally funded by its creative director/CEO Steven Sharif. However, fans can help make this a deeper and more complex game by help funding it on kickstarter. Now I want to make it clear, the project is already fully funded by Steven Sharif; the reason for the kickstarter is to help expand staffing in order to expand the game. The game has already passed the $2,000,000.00 mark with over 11,000 backers. Personally, I have already pledge $470 to help fund this project.

It's been a long time since I was this excited for a game. I played World of Warcraft back in the day, but quit after Wrath of the Lich King was released. Since quitting WoW, I tried other MMORPGs such as Guild Wars 2, Elder Scrolls Online, Tera, etc. but all of them fell short of my expectations. One game would have good combat but the questing sucked, or the story was boring or everything felt too damn repetitive. Let's be honest WoW is still the king and no game has even come close to even touching it. But overall the MMORPG genre has been on a steady decline. Currently the gaming industry is dominated by MOBA's and FPS games, but I'm hoping Ashes will be able to jump start this genre. The main reason I am supporting this game is the because of the team behind it.

Like I stated earlier the game is already fully funded by Steven Sharif. Basically, he is a wealthy individual who is an avid gamer using his resources to make the game of his dreams. There is no publisher or investment group backing this game which is great news. I say that because of Everquest Next. Everquest Next was supposed to be the next big thing; it had innovative ideas and was going to bring back some respect to the genre. However, the game quickly becomes vaporware when Sony sold its own game development studio, Sony Online Entertainment, to an investment firm. Rumors spread and soon after Everquest Next was cancelled. With the cancellation of Everquest Next I thought that I was done with MMORPGs. However, Steven was feeling the same frustrations that I and many others were feeling created Intrepid Studios. He brought together veterans from the gaming industry to help make his dream come to fruition. There will be no publishing company pushing the game ahead of schedule, there will no investors swaying the studio to make a cash shop. In the words of Steven himself, “Make MMORPGs great again.”
