A Review On The Brand New Update For 'Just Survive'
After a barrage of updates, dev posts, nerfs, buffs and fps drops, the Just Survive developers have decided to go back to the original map named 'Z1'. You can now play the original map once again on the Just Survive Test Server. I hadn't played Just Survive since it dropped the 'H1Z1' brand and released a new 1/8 of a map while destroying all hopes of getting above 30 fps on my potato of a PC.
(New Branding For 'Just Survive').
In the same update they also created a new system where you have to buy land by trading items for currency to buy a plot of land to build your settlement. This is one of the main reason why I stopped playing as it meant you had to travel back and forth to the military base (which was made a safe-zone for people trying to trade) and then purchase a rare plot of land which restricts building and custom locations.
(No PvP Military Base In The New Map Update)
One good thing that came from the update however was a private safe that your character spawns with. This is a storage item which can only be opened by you and you alone, it gives you plenty of space to store whatever you want. The reason I feel this was a good addition to the game is because if you are playing alone or with only one friend, it can be hard to play for long enough to build a large base with containers and defences without getting raided or becoming bored. This container allows you to store items early on and hide them from your enemies. This was especially helpful before hand where backpacks were incredibly scarce.
From my experiences of the newest update, I feel like it was a good decision to go back to the old map and implicate the new items and weapons stats(which I will discuss later on). Firstly however, I feel like it was an overwhelmingly good decision go back to the old map. The new map felt almost too buggy to play, the terrain was like a topographical map of the Himalayas and the only flat areas had 2 zombies per square metre. Another set back was the constant rain and daytime cycle which felt like it was 90/10 split between dark and light not to mention the catastrophic fps drops every 3 seconds. The old map 'Z1' also had history while the new map had none and was unfinished. To go from a complete and fan approved map to an unfinished mess of mostly valleys and lakes was very surprising to say the least. The revert back to the old map was simply the best thing they could do to improve the game in my opinion and I'm very glad they did that instead of trying to continue with the new map.
The map wasn't the only thing that changed however. This new update came with the surprise of one hit melee weapons on zombies and two hits for a human with no armour or helmet. Along with this they have improved the hit registration for melee and guns. You can now have proper melee fights without throwing a few dozen hits with only 2 actually packing a punch. Now, if you time it correctly you can fight zombies, wolves etc without taking damage if you do so correctly.
Along with melee, the gun hit accuracy was improved greatly. For example, My friend and I were playing around not really caring what happened to us. While hot-wiring an ATV my friend dropped a stick of dynamite under the ATV and I had to get off and run for safety while watching the ATV get launched into next week. I took appropriate revenge on my friend and was actually able to 1 tap him in the head by aiming properly while he was moving (this was near-impossible. I did this with a few other players and zombies and it feels like they have really improved the game by doing this.
In conclusion, this update was desperately need and delivered on some of the most important issues that the game faced. While the update is still only in the test server, I hope that they do the best that they can and implement the good things into the full game and improve some of the issues that i'm sure will pop up while playing in the future. Hats off to the developers on this update and all the best to them in the future, I hope that they can continue doing great updates like this one.
