Top 20 Multiplayer Games

in #gaming8 years ago

There is no better feeling than when you beat your friend in a multiplayer game and to see how salty they are after the match. We all play multiplayer games for fun and for the win (FTW). When you match with real player things get serious, who has the best skill, who is king of the hill, who has the best tactics and reflexes. At the end of the day it is not really that important who is the best, but that sweet victory gives you that dopamine rush and you want to get better all the time. Here is my "slightly" longer list of my favorite multiplayer games that I've played before and still play some of them cause they are that good. Here we go.

1. Half Life

This game is a full package, superb singleplayer and multiplayer. Multiplayer maps were very interesting and fights were quick and action paced. Interesting weapons would always bring you back for more  action. Tesla to the head, fully charged Gauss gun kills through the walls, long jump shotgun to the face. So much endless fun in this one.

2. Starcraft

Best lan game ever, you sit next to your friends and try to beat them with Zerg rush, poor fellas didn't even knew what Zerg rush was at the beginnings of Zerg rushing. Use Ghosts and set those nukes on them. Protoss Templar storms, Carrier rush and who knows how many tactics would  make Starcraft one of the most played games ever.

3. Counter Strike 1.6

As we were playing Half Life Multiplayer sooner than later people started talking about great new mod called Counter Strike and me and my friends started playing that quickly. What can I say, Counter Strike became one of the most played games today on the planet. Counter Terrorists vs Terrorists tactical shooter. Look no further.

4. Unreal Tournament

First there was Unreal, then came Unreal Tournament, fast paced multiplayer game with futuristic weaponry and many great looking and innovative multiplayer maps. I would train vs godlike bots and would go to some lan parties and be one of the best players around.

5. Warcraft 3

After Starcraft, 2nd most popular Esport was Warcraft 3. I have big history with this game and I even participated in some Tournaments. Considering my quick adaption to any game i would always play as Random and would always be one of the best players. I would lose some games too of course, but when you lose you learn. Great times with this one.

6. Quake 3

Quad damage rail gun to the face. Brutal victory. Quake 3 was a direct competitor to Unreal Tournament and both games were very popular. Quake 3 with big platform jumps and rail gun gameplay you would really had to get good to win in that game. Very competitive.

7. Dawn of War 2

I did write about this game on Steemit before reason being that this game is just too good not to be mention again. Mad and insanely interesting and imaginative Warhammer 40000 universe can give you so many hours of multiplayer fun. I was top 100 player in the world when this game was fresh. I still play it to this day heavy modded with new races and units.

8. Worms 2

Well, if you haven't heard about Worms and never played any Worms games you missed a lot. You can play this game with your girlfriend, with your mom and dad or even your grandfather and throw holy grenade to his face! Take that super sheep grandma and die in misery! Fun for the whole family i say.

9. Heroes of Might and Magic 3

This game is serious, you can't just come in and play 10h straight on hot seat with your friend, yes you can and we did. Marathon games in XXL maps were so much fun, yes we all knew how our armies look like and who will win in the end, but still we played again and again.

10. Dota

Mod that jump started the whole moba genre of games. Everyone played this game, even players who didn't like strategy games. Multiplayer with this one was strong, you had to learn  every hero and know what items to get to be good in Dota. Learning curve was huge but once you got a hang for it, this game was the best.

11. Call of Duty

I played this game in college with my friends, we had 3 computers that were Lan Connected and would play for hours. Lie down and camp with the sniper or take a ride and rush them with tommy machine gun or throw a grenade to their camp and say LOL. Fun times.

12. Command&Conquer Generals

This is not a game with SF elements like Red Alert or Tiberian Sun, it was a C&C game in modern warfare. We had realistic factions in quick real time strategy action. One of the best games ever and it such a shame that they canceled modern Generals 2.

13. League of Legends

I've played this moba a lot, probably 3 years all together, I unlocked every hero and was quite good at this game. League of Legends is 5v5 moba where tactics and knowing your opponent and battleground is the key. This game is a behemoth, it is a top payed Esport today with millions of dollars in prize money.

14. Battle for Middle Earth

This is Lord of the Rings real time strategy game where you could play as any of the races in that fantasy world. You could even recruit some of the heroes from the movie and have unfair advantage. Every race would bring their own units and strategies to the table and that is why I liked this game so much.

15. Street Fighter 4

There must be at least 2 fighting games on this list, here is Street Fighter 4. New age graphics and new characters with new moves made this fighting game very fun. Haduken super alfa powerup and then you miss. Nice mix between rage and fun.

16. Age of Mythology

I've played this game quite a lot during my high school time, me and my friend would miss hours in school just to play this in multiplayer. Age of Empires with God's powers, Norse, Egyptian or Greek Gods and heroes would battle in this amazing game.

17. Battlefield 1942

First Battlefield game was something very new at the time. Players were able to use heavy machinery in battles like tanks and battleships. There were also classes with different roles to play. Be a medic or anti tank engineer, that was your choice to make and would be a difference between win or loss.

18. Mortal Kombat 3

One of the first fighting games I've played as a kid and this game probably sparked my competitive spirit. Be the best Liu Kang amongst your friends, but also have the worst grades in school, tough choice. Game won.

19. Duke Nukem 3D

Imagine playing a First Person Shooter without mouse and only with keyboard. You would need 5Mb of disk space to play Duke Nukem 3D. That game would fill 5 floppy disks. New games need 100's of Gb of disk space, but we would have as much and even more fun playing 5 Mb one. Great classic.

20. Heroes of The Storm

This is my latest multiplayer game that I play daily. Moba game from Blizzard that gives you an option to play as any of their characters from all of the games they made in the last 20  years. Constantly improving and still fresh, this is a great game to give it a chance if you haven't already tried it.
