Top 10 Most Controversial Games

in #gaming8 years ago (edited)

Gaming is now mainstream as we all know, there are movies being made based on popular games, Esports became very popular, tons of gaming based products are available. Mainstream media sees that gaming has a massive audience, and just because of this fact this is a new target to blame for mass shooting or any type of violent behavior. We, the normal people know that games are just games, but media can make them look like the work of the devil to attract views.

One thing is certain, nobody can stop this giant anymore. Game buisness is now worth billions and billions of dollars. This list will cover some of the most violent or controversial games ever released, and actually there are quite a lot of them out there.

1. GTA: San Andreas

Big open world where you have the freedom to do whatever you like. GTA franchise from Rockstar Games probably had the most trouble by the media with creating that type of games. The thing that was so controversial about San Andreas is the "Hot Coffee" secret mini game where our hero would have sex with NPC's. Not that big of a deal today but at the time it was a huge deal. Later those "caring" groups gave up the fight because Mass Effect and Witcher franchises took the sex scenes to a different level.

2. Postal 2

Postal games are one of the most controversial ever. You can go out and slaughter people with any tool imaginable. This game was so brutal that it was forbidden in some countries. You can even shoot your guns from the cat's ass as a silencer. Yeah i know, brutal, butt funny.  See what I did there.

3. Mortal Kombat

When the first Mortal Kombat came out it had those brutal "Fatalities" when you win the match. So your Character does very brutal animation where he executes a loser in a very gory way. Simple but brutal fun. Media did not think that though. Like people would go outside and start decapitating people after playing this game.

4. South Park: The Stick of Truth

South Park always manage to get some kind of media flak for their work. This game is no different, but as always some media people fail to realize that South Park is probably the best satire material on the planet. Next sequel in the series is named "Fractured But Whole", yeah, expect more of "South Park is corrupting our kids" headlines.

5. Counter Strike

One of the main games that gets pinned on the wall of shame as the lead suspect for the mass murder behavior from crazy people. Fake Terrorist killing fake hostages, blowing up fake objectives. Real terror happening in the world today does not help the case for this game also, for ones that always have something to blame, why not this game.

6. Carmageddon 2

This is one of the 1st games where you could drive around the City and murder the fake people like a livestock. They tried to censor this game by introducing zombies as a pedestrians. Nah, did not work, I always used the real people one.

7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Airport shooting opening of the game where you would come in with the bunch of mercenaries and start killing innocent people did quite a lot of real media coverage, even more so than the previous game where actual nuke blew up and killed millions. By doing this kind of news, i don't think mainstream media is aware that even more people actually gets attracted to the game, cause it is just a game afterall and people do like to have fun.

8. Fallout 3

Blowing the whole city of Megaton with the nuke was one of those WTF moments. Sure you could choose not to blow the Megaton but i think most of us who played the game did. I know i did and it was fun. I must be a psycho then and should be put into a mental institution.

9. Duke Nukem 3D

Paying cash to the strippers, nude characters everywhere and everything Duke does is controversial for the public. Great one liners from our hero disturbed some people and they wanted to ban this game. Duke said Fuck Off and lighted a cigarette.

10. Quake 4

Conveyor belt scene sure is one of the most memorable ones. Your avatar finds himself on a Strogg conveyor belt where parts of his body gets cut to pieces and replaced by robot parts. Disturbing as it can get but the game was fun. Decent shooter.

Duke Nukem 3D ftw. Loved that game. In fact quite a few of these were favourites at some point. Maybe you're not the only psycho!

As a dad of two who grew up playing these games I would say your list is spot on. I recognize every title and every screenshot you posted.
I'm wondering how many out there think they first popped their cherry on GTA.

Probably most of them. Kids should learn about life from GTA games :)
