The Most Atmospheric Games
There is nothing better than a game with great atmosphere, gamers like to complete that kind of games and will always come back to them when sequels are released. If developers could make a game atmospheric that game would always have great many copies sold. Main traits of great atmospheric games are graphics, lightning effects, music, great story and immersion. Here are some of my favorite atmospheric games.
Diablo
"Hahaha fresh meat" - Butcher line when you first meet him. "Stay awhile and listen" Deckard Cain's words when you go to identify some items. Sounds of gold dropping, monster slaying, sword swings, bow string sounds. Everything was perfect in the first Diablo game. That game created the whole genre of games called ARPG and would serve as great building block for future games how it should be done.
Fallout: New Vegas
Don't you love to explore postapocalyptic wastelands and listen to 50's music. Just listen to this tune i will post and imagine playing in that kind of environment, instant immersion. New Vegas had that Mojave desert feel so nicely done with great story underneath it all. This one could easily be my favorite modern Fallout game.
System Shock 2
Exploring and hacking through a massive space ship and being chased by murderous AI Shodan makes this game the one to remember. You will find dead crew everywhere and try to solve the mystery of Shodan. First time you get chased by cyber zombies and music starts playing you will know the true greatness this game had. I actually reinstalled this one few days ago, who needs new games when you can play oldies.
Metro Last Light
Nobody can deny the atmosphere of this game where humans live deep underground in metro stations. Atmosphere outside is deadly for them and is filled with strange and dangerous mutated creatures. This game had special game mechanics with low amount of ammo, you had to scavenge and use tactics to survive and use breathing masks that had timers when you go outside. Very immersive game with great story and amazing graphics, the lighting effects are top notch.
