The Best Steampunk Games

This type of games are based on 19th century theme with big steam engines, gunpowder and crude mechanic contraptions. Games with that kind of theme have always been interesting to me. Developers would go to more fantasy realms where technology would be direct opposite to magic and that would create friction between factions of any particular game of that genre. That narrative would create many interesting worlds and among them is my favorite game ever Arcanum. 

 

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura

Steampunk open world RPG where you can play with any fantasy race imaginable and be any sort of class. For example you can be Half-orc inventor, Dwarf gunslinger or a Human with 6 strong followers that could fight instead of you. Every time you finish the game and start a new you will always find something new. Game to get yourself lost into. World where there is even more ancient steampunk technology in a place called Wendigroth ruins. You could craft many types of technological steampunk gadgets and use them on your enemies. 

Dishonored

In this steampunk stealth action game with RPG elements  you play as Corvo, an assassin of the queen who gets supernatural abilities and try to discover what the hell is happening around him.  City of Dunwall is the place of his operations, city filled with corrupt officials and loot.  This game is heavy steampunk themed and a true pleasure for the fans of that art style.

Thief Deadly Shadows

When you play Thief games you wouldn't say right away that you are particularly playing a steampunk game, but once you go deep into it you will see that this world is heavily build upon steampunk lore, your traps and gadgets are all mechanical, there are even steam robots and low magic world with interesting story.  Time to replay.

Bioshock Infinite

Even though Bioshock under water also had some steampunk elements this game had that theme allover, flying cities, steam robots, sky rails. From visual perspective this game was and still is the real eye candy, a true steampunk work of art.
