The Best Star Wars Games

in #gaming8 years ago

Long time ago in a galaxy far far away there is a lot of life time to be wasted playing Star Wars games. There are as many Star Wars games as there are stars in the night sky. If you love SW universe there are many games you can try out, from RTS, RPG, FPS, MMO to Lego games. You can be a Light Sabre wielding Jedi or some alien looking bounty hunter, the choice is yours. It might be an interesting universe but it also brings a lot of cash for the owners, SW franchise is now owned by Disney, so we can expect many more SW products on the market. Today's topic is The Best Star Wars games so here we go.

Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

One of my favorite SW games is this FPS that can also be played form 3rd person perspective once you equip your Light Sabre and start using force powers. While playing the single player part of the game you can communicate with many popular SW characters including Luke Skywalker and Kyle Katarn.

Old Republic

MMO that is still going strong and can be played for a long long time. Start playing Old Republic for free and get locked for a month at least. This game has everything any SW fan can  hope for. Interesting stories for 8 different classes, multiple expansions, space battles, crafting, raiding with groups of people. Best SW MMO ever, not that there were many, but this one is worth your time for sure.

Empire at War

Star Wars in one of the better forms released. This game had something different going for the players, you could play on the ground with your forces, you could fight in space battles, and you could give orders on big space battle map and conquer planets where you can build your massive space fleets or ground assault troops. Expansion introduced a new faction that made this game even more fun.

Galactic Battlegrounds

How many people forgot about this game I wonder. This is essentially Age of Empires clone placed in Star Wars universe, you could chose between 6 completely different factions. And also you could recruit all the popular movie characters that were like hero units that were very strong and with some support could win battles. Great game if you are a fan of SW and Age of Empires.

Knights of The Old Republic

Story of this game took place 10k years before the main movies with good old jedi and sith battling it out. What was so special about this game is that deep story and SW mystery around your character. I don't want to spoil the story but it could easily be shocking as "Luke I am your father" line. Great RPG mechanics were the engine of this great story.

A very good list of games. Plus, I like stuff like this.

However, I think that, other than KOTOR, you left out the most important one, that being Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight. It was my first Star Wars game back in the day, and even though it hasn't aged that well, it still offers that Star Wars magic. It's a game that really makes the player feel like he's inside the Star Wars universe, in a way that many other games of its genre don't.

Kyle isn't the most charismatic protagonist in the world, but in an FPS it doesn't matter that much. And the FMV cutscenes aren't that bad, not even by today's standards. The acting is not Hollywood level, but it's not embarrassing, either.

It may be nostalgia, but I prefer the first Jedi Knight to Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, personally.

Also, I'm currently in the process of doing a KOTOR 1 and 2 playthrough, back to back. It's been a while since I've played KOTOR 2, but with the Restored Content Mod, I think that KOTOR 2 may be a bit better than 1. I just like the darker, more depressed atmosphere of it.

It's just too bad we never got see Revan in KOTOR 2.

How do you feel about KOTOR 2?

Any Jedi Knight game was great, when there is such a great series it is hard to pick the best one to include it on the list. There is also Force Unleashed that was decent, both games were action heavy and with great new story to experience.

Kotor 2 was also one of the most played games I've ever played, I think I've completed that game maybe 4 times, mainly for the multiple Sith Lords that were interesting, and that Kreia was one of the best written SW characters ever. Dark tone with the exile and new planets to explore, had so much fun with that one, but Kotor was the base, building foundation for many future games, including Kotor 2 and Old Republic and it's expansions.
