The Best Platformer Games

in #gaming8 years ago

Platformer games came from primordial soup of old school gaming, you have to jump over obstacles and on enemies heads to beat the level. Best example for this are Super Mario games that are still popular today and going strong into the future. There are some indie projects that took that same formula and expanded it for more fantastic worlds and jump mechanics. One can have fun with one or two platformers once he or she completed their favorite RPG, FPS or RTS game. Here are some of my favorite platformers over the years.

Ori and the Blind Forest

This game is truly a work of art, nicely drawn environments, nice sounding orchestral music and decent platforming where you need to get good to finish the game. Ori is a spirit that  is trying to save the forest and in his journey he will get stronger and by the end of the game he will have amazing set of abilities that can combo with each other. This game won few of the game of the year nominations trough 2015. and 2016. in best audio, art and artistic achievements.

Trine

In this platformer you can play as three different characters with each having different abilities that can help you complete the level. Mage, Thief and Knight each have their own special sets of skills makes this game fresh until the end. Nice graphics also helps with the immersion for this great game.

Jazz Jackrabit 2

This is a platformer from the 90's, this game stand out from rest because of unique art style and weapons that opened some interesting possibilities for the rabbits. This game was Shooter/platformer and one of the best at the time with 3 different characters to play with.

Super Mario Bros. 3

Luigi and Mario jumping over obstacles in this crazy game. Mario games look simple enough but wait till you get to later levels, only most skilled players can survive there. Super Mario Franchise is still going strong and shows no signs of stopping. Expect new Mario game every year for the rest of your life. It's a me Mario!

I am glad to see a resurgence of this genre.

Yeah, indie platformers are all over the place now.

Played Inside recently. Absolutely fabulous. That an Ori are two of my favourite platformers in the past year or so.

Inside looks wickedly good.

I am busy working on a video for Outland, another really cool platformer from what I have seen so far with an amazing art style, I hope to have it up soon if you want to have a look at it :) great post by the way.

I've seen some screenshots of Outland, they really make them good for the eye these days.

Spyro the Dragon series from the PS1 too were fun!
