The Best Kickstarter Games

in #gaming8 years ago (edited)

Kickstarter is a site where you can donate for the future gaming project or any other project unrelated to games. Over 10 million people backed some kind of Kickstarter project. This platform is great for gaming because it gives developers more time to finish their projects and not be rushed by their publishers. There are many examples when unfinished game gets  released and gets destroyed by the reviews. Recently we had some great games that came out from Kickstarter projects and i will talk about some of them.  One of the most anticipated games that will soon be released with Kickstarter backing is a spiritual successor of Planescape Torment, Torment: Tides of Numenera,  InExile studios with Brian Fargo will try to bring us back to golden era of gaming with that one. However, let us talk about some of the released games that are worth playing today.

Shadowrun Returns

Imagine cyberpunk future with orks, elves, trolls, dwarfs and all sorts of magical creatures living in a big fantasy cyberpunk world. That my friends is Shadowrun universe. When they introduced this game to Kickstarter it didn't take long for people to notice it. One of the 1st success stories of Kickstater and from that game people saw the potential. After Shadowrun Returns we had 2 standalone games after that, Shadowrun: Dragonfall and Shadowrun: Hong Kong. All great games and i would strongly recommend them to any cyberpunk fan.

Pillars of Eternity

Obsidian was close to shutting down the company, they had some bad years and had to lay of decent number of people. But things changed as they introduced this game to Kickstarter project, they announced it as a spiritual successor of Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Arcanum or similar games. And final product was hyped to the moon. Some were disappointed but not me, I enjoyed this game fully.  Big success of the game spawned two more expansions that were quite fun, White March Part 1, and White March Part 2.

Wasteland 2

Original Wasteland inspired Fallout series, and we all  know what juggernaut that franchise is today. Tactical role playing game in post apocalyptic environment. You take a role of a Ranger who is on a mission to help the wastelanders in any shape or form. Big world with many choices and consequences. Great gameplay where you can only succeed with careful planing and tactics.

Divinity: Original Sin

Kickstarter project from Larian studios that has gotten some of game of the year awards. But what they did is release old school game at the right time when many publishers didn't care about that type of games. Result was an amazing success. This game had improved graphics and changeable environment, you could cast ice spell and the ground will be slippery, add fire, ground becomes wet, add electricity and who ever stands there gets electrocuted for more damage. Great story line and big world to explore. Can't wait for sequel that is coming out soon.

I backed all of those, so I couldn't agree more. Let me add a few I backed and was really happy with:

Dreamfall Chapters - The Longest Journey

The Book Of Unwritten Tales 2

Republique

Double Fine Adventure aka Broken Age, despite all the controversy.

I've been meaning to write about this subject as well so maybe I should move it up my queue in the next few days.. :)

Site finally started working. I will be watching all those games you mentioned. Also never enough gaming on steem so go for it.

I've got all these ones on steam, except for Pillars - just waiting for a large discount. Good choices.

Try Pillars, you will not be sorry, it has really interesting story and big new world to explore.

I'd add Crowfall to that list, I come from the UO days so that game hits home for my style of gaming :)
