The Best Game Mods
Game mods are player created content that expands original game by big margin. Games that get too old for developers to continue updating them, but also have many following tend to get a lot of mods. Some of my favorite games when modded with player created mods really bring a breath of fresh air into them. Basically mods are free and you can just install them over your game, and if you wish you can donate some money to the developer to continue support your favorite mod. Here are some of the best mods created by fans.
Dawn of War: Soulstorm - Ultimate Apocalypse Mod
This mod is by far content richest on this list. Mod that greatly enhances base game and adds 3 new races into the mix. Tyranids, Chaos Demons and Inquisition. and also adds tons of new units for existing races. Original game had two tiers of upgrades, this mod allows 2 more tiers, and also you can build Titans, the Ultimate destruction tool. This mod is so good that i can't even.. and also BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!
Dawn of War 2: Retribution - Elite Mod
Being more modern of two Dawn of War games this one needed more talented developers to create advanced textures and models that would look decent enough to compare them to the base game. Engine being that complex introduced only one new race and many improvements to existing races. Very fun mod that you can still install and play on steam if you own Dawn of War 2 copy.
Arma 2 - Day Z Mod
This mod became very popular very quickly. The idea is that the player is placed in big sandbox environment and he needs to scavenge to survive zombie attacks and other players that roam around, very simple concept but also wildly popular when you compete against other players.
Half Life - Black Mesa Mod
For many gamers Half Life is one of the best games ever created, that single player experience is by far the most atmospheric and immersive than any other shooter ever created, so why not use Half Life 2 engine "Source" to recreate the whole Half Life in Half Life 2 engine. Result is spectacular, and just by writing about it makes wanna install this asap.

Ah... day z. I remember playing the mod so much, I played the standalone and it was good but it is completely stagnant at the moment.
H1Z1: King of the Kill is quite popular now on Twitch TV, at this moment there are 30k people watching those streams. It is very similar to Day Z.
