Risen Games

From the makers of popular Gothic games Piranha Bytes came another clone version with compelling story and setting. Risen game are set in a gunpowder low fantasy setting on multiple islands that your character will explore and plunder for nice loot. All Risen games have great graphics that holds great even in 2017. Prepare to explore the seas and fight raising titan lords in this excellent gaming series.

Risen

First game was released in 2009 and the game was great. With the new setting different from Gothic we had a nice story and location to explore. Game is set on an island of Faranga, vulcanic rocky island with various factions living there. Our hero is a shipwreck survivor washed on the beaches of Faranga, from there he will meet people from the island and decide what faction to join in doing the main quest of beating the Inquisitor and a Titan that Inquisitor is trying to unleash. What is so interesting about this game is the gameplay mechanics of zone exploration where our character slowly levels up and in doing so he will gain stronger equipment to try out his luck in zones with stronger enemies. Beautiful environments and fun combat in addition of level design is what this game is all about.

Risen 2: Dark Waters

Second game was released in 2012 and just like it's predecessor game was a blast to play. First Risen game was not too heavy on pirate elements, later developers realized that it is the best choice for them to adopt full on Pirate theme and they did that in Dark Waters. Our hero starts from nothing and builds his crew in attempt to find the artifact weapon to beat the Titan Lords. In this game we could use pistols, rifles and standard pirate sabres, and also some more of a pirate themed Voodoo magic if anyone wants to build a mage like character. We can explore many islands and increase in ranks the reputation of our ship and crew and do things any pirate would do.

Risen 3: Titan Lords

Last game in the series was released in 2014 and it unfortunately did not deliver as the previous games did. Titan Lords continued with the Titan plot and we play as a new hero that was raised from the dead with some strange ritual. One of the main features of the game is the freedom to explore many islands as you wish with completely nonlinear approach and join many factions to shape the branching story of beating the Titans for good. Even though Titan Lords is not as good as the first two games, it is still worth playing. I would recommend to any fan of Gothic series that didn't try the Risen series to check it out and be pleasantly surprised.
