PC Game Review - Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach
Introduction
This is a game from indie developer Slitherine, so you can expect low budget game that won't reach massive amount of audience. Sanctus Reach is a Turn Based Strategy game set in brutal Warhammer40k universe. Game is focused on Space Marine chapter Space Wolfs, more brutal Space Marines with wolf genes implanted in them making them suffer from curse of Wulfen that can make them go berserk and hurt their own kind. Fight between very interesting Space Marines Chapter and always brutal Orks is the what this game is all about, check it out.
Gameplay
You can play two lengthy campaigns story missions where you can capture the victory points, escort the transports and such. With low budget story element is not as one would hope, it is all about strategy, just cleanse the planet from xeno scum.
Sounds from the fight and ork bits and pieces flying around makes it fun for a while. Units are nicely modeled and are based on new Game Workshop miniature models like Knights and Gargants. There are some epic Space Wolf heroes like Ragnar Blackmane and Logan Grimnar playable in the game, fans of Space Wolfs rejoice.
Turn Based combat is fairly interesting where you can buy army worth of points that you can have at the deployment phase of the battle. Pick your army and start moving them two moves every turn and use different range or melee weapons and special abilities. AI is not that smart which is OK considering we fight Orks that are mindless berserkers, lucky for Slitherine. There is not too much variety in story missions that are mostly about defending positions and capturing victory points.
From price and graphics standpoint, Sanctus Reach is just that what it offers, medium price tag for mediocre looking game, from time to time you get to see fine looking models though. For any fan of these armies game can offer decent amount of fun for a short time. If you are not a fan of Warhammer40k skip this one, it's not worth your time.
Is it possible to play as the Orks, or is it just a Space Puppies campaign?
Both factions are playable in skirmish mode.
