Heroes of Might and Magic Games pt.2

in #gaming8 years ago

If you want to play Heroes of Might and Magic game you better prepare for long gaming sessions, well not that long if you play the new heroes games, many of you will uninstall quick, but there are some interesting features in every game. Build your town with many different resources, explore the map, fight the creeps, upgrade your units, find strong artifacts are the basis for every Heroes of Might and Magic game. Battles are played in an hexagonal grid arena where stacks of units that have different abilities battle it out. Many developers over the years tried to change the winning formula of Heroes games, most of the Heroes games after HoMM 3 were quite bad, but as a fan of the series I found some of them to be quite enjoyable. Every HoMM game part 2, or when majority of fans lost hope for the series.

Heroes of Might and Magic IV

This game was vastly different from HoMM 3 or any other Heroes game. We could actually control multiple heroes in battle scenarios and every hero would gain experience. That system allowed us to build one hero for town management and he would be a ranged fighter in the battles, 2nd hero would serve as a fighting unit, and when they level up they could become quite the one man army. Different take on heroes game with interesting art style, I liked it.

Heroes of Might and Magic V

Many people did not like the route Heroes 4 took so the 5th heroes game returned to the roots. Heroes 2 introduced upgrade unit mechanic, Heroes 5 with expansion Tribes of the East added something truly new for heroes games, we could now pick between two upgrade options. For example normal Griffin could be upgraded into Royal Griffin or Battle Griffin, each upgrade have different stats, imagine that upgrade option with every unit in the game. Tactical options are diverse to say the least. Probably my favorite amongst new Heroes games.

Heroes of Might and Magic VI

This game tried to invent hot water. I must say campaign story was very bad, new map mechanic was that your town would have area of effect where AI couldn't take mines around your town if you control the area. Most annoying part of Heroes 3 was constant AI movement that would steal your mines and you had to turn back non stop to recapture them. Not in this game, however, they reduced the resources count. We only had wood, ore, gold and crystals. Unnecessary downgrade. Heroes 6 is bad, skip this one.

Might and Magic Heroes VII

If you hadn't noticed devs changed the word order in the title of last game in the series, wow. Old resources returned but the game was released in broken state. Nobody could play this smoothly, game was filled with bugs and one year after the release it is still in bad shape, but the base game is interesting enough. For example ultimate units can take two upgrade routes, idea taken from Heroes 5. So our loving franchise went trough so many different iterations and troubles, I think Heroes franchise is at it's last breaths, being that last two games disappointed many, but who knows they might return again.

I only play HoMM3. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Yeah only HoMM3 is evergreen. Last one can be interesting enough if patched. I'd say Heroes 3, 5 and 7 are worth playing.
